I always thought that it was odd that the C-body Deville was pretty much the only Caddy that didn't have standard digital speedometer/odometer/trip-ometer. Even more so is that I thought it was odd that digitial speed was optional yet the digital fuel info center and digital climate control was standard. I'd like to know who how many prefer one or the other.

The digital speedo is actually enough to make or break a sale for me. Its the same way when I see a RWD Fleetwood/Brougham. If it has the analog speedometer I will easily pass it up but the digital gets me to stop and stay a while. I wish that Caddy was still putting digital instrument clusters into cars since the one on my '95 is one of the nicest I have ever seen, but now they are all analog.
BTW, my '88 does have the digital speedometer. |

It was always a deal maker or breaker. I insisted on digital cluster. One of the reasons I went for the DTS was the choice.
I have to say, since owning the car I usually use the analog option, BUT it's just that kind of car. In a performance oriented car I like an analog gage. In anything else I have to have digital.

Generally, I prefer a full set of analog gauges, and when I first looked at my car on the used car lot, I was disappointed to see it had the digital dash. But I got used to it pretty quickly, and on this car at least, I prefer the digital setup to the analog speedometer. With all the other digital readouts on the fuel data center and climate control, the digital dash just looks more cohesive.

BTW, has anyone else ever noticed that the "lines" around the analog speedo appear to light up, yet the ones around the digital dash equipped ones do not? here's a link to one just in case i'm confusing anyone, which I tend to do at times, lol. http://youtube.com/watch?v=hBptrq_CmbA&feature=related

On the digital speedos only the numbers are lit, so the light can be more focused and doesn't "seep through" any openings like that, although I think Caddy designed it to look that way at night. When I bought the car, I LOVED the horizontal 85mph speedometer. It was "old school" (just like in the '70s models!! ) and it wasn't something that you'd see a lot anymore. But over time, I found out that at speeds over 70mph, it was very inaccurate, and it would only get worse as speeds increased. Quote:

Yeah, "Pigs3differentones" is my Youtube user account. I named it after the awesome Pink Floyd song from the Animals album. |

You may see an ad for it pop up here within the next few days.
Most manual speedos did become inaccurate at speed. My van is spot on anywhere from 0-65, but at 70+ it is off by 5 or more mph. I tested it with a gps unit a while ago. When I hit 85 in my Fleetwood it just flashes at me and pisses me off. Last weekend I hit 114 in the '95 before the engine hit the rev limiter. Not as fast as I wanted (I really urn for a car that will do at least 120), but good none the less. |

Im my experience I've noticed that if it goes forwards in reverse it's electronic, if it goes backwards-cable operated. |

GM made no sense during the 80's. We had to do the speedo cable on my friends '87 IROC and were surprised. Every gauge in the car is controlled electronically EXCEPT the speedometer. It was a PITA to get that thing to work right. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
