Tech help please - More codes P0171 and P1133

Ok so I'm driving up the Thruway with the cruise set at 74 when all of a sudden I feel the car jerk, the spedo whips down and back up and then all is fine.

I got home, pulled the codes and found P0171 along with P1133

    P1133 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Insufficient Switching Bank 1 Sensor 1

P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1

Now you may remember I just recently posted an issue with

P0131 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1

    and

P0134 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Circuit Insufficient Activity Bank 1 Sensor 1

This is an 01 DTS with 62k on it.. AJ? Anyone ? What am I looking at here

Have you done the plenum check with choke cleaner or snooped for a vacuum leak in the intake/TB area? The O2 lean signals are vacuum/air leak type warnings. An O2 rich signal is a different code.

BUT.....the Cruise On/Throttle burp is mysterious. Something hiccuped and, for a millisecond, cut fuel to the engine. It's not typical of CranKshaft Position sensors.

Any SES light ? What about idle quality and a real WOT ?? Seem to run OK ??

Stick a socket on the intake manifold bolts and see if they are all snug, not squeak tight, snug. Did you do a butt plug or intake tract mod ? If there's a leak past (> toward the engine) the MAF that could cause a hiccup.

CKP sensor. My '02 SLS did that once. I my case I was lucky that it set a DTC.

Re: Tech help please - More codes P0171 and P1133

I had investigated for vacuum leaks before when the other 2 codes got set. That's been withing the last 500 miles or so.

I have not checked the intake bolts

There is no butt-plug thingy on the Deville

Yes I have a Volant intake but the runner to the TB seems to be sealed, best I can tell.

Yes the SES light is on also from the other 2 codes now these as well. If I clear them they come back within a few miles, usually.

AJ mentioned something about contaminated the O2 sensor with a rich mixture. Additionally someone else said the first 2 codes are definitely a sensor and NOT a sensor code being set from something else.

Now these 2 come into play so I wanted further advice before spending $150 on the sensor.

So are we thinking sensor? If so I'll have my guy do it while the cars on the lift for the motor mount.

That's where my money is seeing as it is an '01 (especially if they have never been changed).

Re: Tech help please - More codes P0171 and P1133

I think so too. They've never been changed. I still say 62k is way premature. I cleared the codes tonight and the first one to set was P1133 so I'm betting it is the sensor.

I''m also betting that AJ's guess on contaminating it with a rich AFR is the culprit.

No worries. I'll get it done when I do the motor mount.

Re: Tech help please - More codes P0171 and P1133

So I cleared the codes again and yesterday P0131 and P0171 were set together at the same time.

I've ordered the sensor part number OEM part number 12559850 from Rock Auto, who lists it as ACDELCO 213802

    We'll see what happens

Did the new sensor keep the codes off?

Re: Tech help please - More codes P0171 and P1133

TBD, immediately after picking the car up it started throwing P0171 continually. I cleared it and it came right back almost all day.

The next day it seemed to stay away for a while but then I got P0131 one time then that went away.

Drove the car for a bit yesterday with no codes so we're going to have to wait and see. But I'll keep you posted.

Re: Tech help please - More codes P0171 and P1133

OK so nothing has really changed here I guess.

I had a chance to put so miles on the car this past weekend and it's the same old story with the new O2 sensor.

    P0171, P0131 and P1133

P0171 is usually by itself and frequently P0131 and P1133 are set together.

Just wanted to give you all an update on my insanity.
