Hello All... newbie to this forum with a question

Remove this ad
Hello all,

My name is Brian, and I am new to this forum. I am a 50 year old military retiree living in Northern California.

I am not new to the Cadillac brand. I have owned a 1992 Deville (black on black) which was my favorite daily driver of all time. (I also have and have had several muscle era cars)

I currently have a 2000 Deville that belonged to my wife until recently. Now it belongs to my 19 year old son.

Anyway... I am trying to locate the source of a few problems that are currently being experienced in the Deville.

The first is the daytime running lights / auto on headlights. The headlights no longer come on at dusk automatically. I am thinking that there may be a problem with the "electric eye" on top of the dash... but perhaps it is more involved than that? What do I need to check out, and/or replace to get it functioning again?

The other problem is a constant illumination of the ABS and Traction Control lights on the dash. From what I have read so far, it is supposed to be a problem with the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)... would that be correct?

If so, where is the EBCM located? What does it look like? Is it difficult to change? Is there anything else I should be checking out?

There are a bunch of computer codes referring to the ABS. C1223, C1224, C1226, C1233 & C1248.

Any help in these issues would be greatly appreciated, and I would like to thank you in advance!

Thanks!

Brian Nehring

Re: Hello All... newbie to this forum with a question

C1223 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Signal is 0
C1224 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Signal is 0
C1226 - Right Front Excessive Wheel Speed Variation
C1233 - Right Front Wheel Speed Circuit Open or Shorted
C1248 - EBCM Turned the Red Brake Warning Indicator On

It does sound like an EBCM problem since the codes are popping up all over the car. I'm not sure where its located on your car but someone more familiar with your generation Devilles should be by soon. A Factory Service Manual (eBay or www.helminc.com) will be invaluable if you are trying to fix it yourself.

Follow the brake lines from the master cylinder to the EBTCM. Had any brake work done lately?

I'd suspect the sensor you mentioned for the headlight problem. Look into that first.

Re: Hello All... newbie to this forum with a question

The only brake work that I ever did to the car was changing all of the rotors and pads because of vibration issues... but that was close to two years ago.

The car drives and brakes well. I just want to get the warning lights to go out.

So... I follow the brake line from the brake master cylinder going back... when will I know when I get to the EBCM? I don't know what it looks like... or is it a "no brainer"?

Thank you for the information!

Brian

Re: Hello All... newbie to this forum with a question

The EBTCM is up front on the left side of the engine compartment. There are 4 brake lines coming out of it and 2 going in I believe. .
