A/C problem

I turn on the A/C and its throwing heat, even if i crank temperature down very low. I know that when most every other car i have had has lost its charge, It just blows "lukewarm" air. But the Caddy is actually throwing heat. Just a simple charge needed or maybe something else?

Re: A/C problem

If you've lost the charge you should have a low refrigerant DTC and the compressor will be disabled. Got any DTC's? Does the compressor run? If no DTC's and the compressor runs, I'd look for a stuck air mix door, bad actuator or maybe a vacuum leak causing the air mix door to be stuck open.

Re: A/C problem

DTC is short for digital trouble codes. Did this car blow cold air yesterday and now not? Did you buy it this way? Have you verified compressor engages? advise.

I cannot find an F40 DTC.

If in fact that is correct, you'll have to locate the door, run the temp up and down and see if it moves. Free it up or replace the actuator. A FSM will help you locate it and tell you how to get to it.

Re: A/C problem

ok thanks! i know its not the preferred book but i have a haynes manual that has the codes too. funny thing is in BCM codes in the manual, it lists 40 as hvac air mix door without a preceding "F". the "F" seemed strange but thats what the display read in the car. the BCM code of 40 was closest to being related to the problem.

Guess all i can do is get under dash and look around with it as you suggested. By actuator do you mean the switch? and would that be underdash at or near the door?

Re: A/C problem

There is an A40 DTC that is an air mix door. Does the compressor run when you turn on the A/C?

The actuator is a small motor that operates the door with a linkage rod. Your year could be vacuum operated though. I'm not positive. Just locate the door and see what operates it and if it is working when you change the temperature.
