Re: colling system problems

If you just replaced the side tank then the other one is just as old and probably was about to go anyway. If you replaced the radiator, I have no idea why the side tank would crack so soon.

Re: colling system problems

It's an 18yr old vehicle with a who knows how old and abused engine in it. Things go bad. When it rains it pours. Part of the deal. It ain't over yet. K_C

Re: colling system problems

Didn't mean to send a downer. I've owned many an "old" car and gone down the keeping it up road, I'm driving a 12yr old DeVille right now and love every minute of it. Hope the cap solves the issue at hand, good luck with it. The really good thing is you found this forum to help you with just about any problem you might encounter, keep in touch. Up date your "User CP" at the top of this page to include the year and model of your ride. It helps those who are here to help you. K_C

Re: colling system problems

When the head gasket blew on my FIRST Northstar engine, the pressure from the combustion gases built up to the point where it cracked the right side tank. Needless to say, I was very careful to leave the pressure cap loose when the head gasket failed on my SECOND Northstar engine!

Re: colling system problems

ok well i looked agian today and noticed the crack growing in size so i figuired ide check the coolant temp gage and i noticed theat when i disconect it the fans kick on but when i reconect it the shut off even if the hoses are hot .then i checked the IAT or ECT sensor what ever you want to call it dose the same thing its suposed to read out 3,200 to 3,500 ohms resistance at 68f and at 175f its suposed to read out at 330 330 ohms resistance but it reads out nothing so im wondering could this be the problem why im haveing problems with my cooling system cause its not letting the fans run when it gets up to temp causeing the temp to high and no cool down fast enough its just like one thing after another i get one thing fixed an another goes wrong
