Where are the fill marks on a '98 Deville coolant surge tank?

Remove this ad
Hi folks, I'm chasing a coolant issue, and I cannot locate any fill marks on my surge tank in my 1998 Deville. (I have read and heard mention of these tanks having fill marks.) There is a cannister-shaped object (goes to the A/C unit I believe) sort of attached to the tank, but other than that I am not able to see any marks whatsoever.

Of course, the Haynes manual I have shows a tank without the afforementioned A/C part and an arrow pointing right to that spot for the fill marks. I was also wondering how much this tank visibly holds, that is how much you can actually see by looking into it. I've read folks filling it half way, but where exactly is halfway in these tanks? Inside the cap opening there seems to be some sort of angled piece that looks like it separates the tank into two sides but it does not appear very deep in this part of the tank, I am assuming there is more to the tank since i can see it goes down further on the outside looking at it in the engine bay (it appears to be molded in halves one on top the other on bottom)?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Scott

Fill it to the joint, about 1/2 way (right at the molded joint) or 2 - 2 1/2" below the base of the filler neck.
