Unhappy 2002 DHS Stalls

Remove this ad
My 2002 DHS has been stalling at stops when waiting more than 30 seconds for a red light. No codes but Portland Oregon since January 2008 has required 10% ethanol in all gas. Both Cam sensors were replaced a year ago under warranty. Think this is the gas or have the Cam sensors gone bad again? The 10% ethanol killed my 85 chevy Blazer and had to replace the Filter and flush gas line to get it running. Can a 2002 work with 10% ethanol? Love the tree huggers telling me what kind of gas I can buy!

Re: 2002 DHS Stalls

Tonkin, do you mean "crank" Sensors (CKP)? There is only one cam sensor I think.

I have no choice but to run 10% ethanol and have never had a problem. I think you can rule that out.

Re: 2002 DHS Stalls

Probably not gas: My '02 has been on 10% ethanol since sometime a year ago, and both CKP's were replaced some time ago. It runs faithfully and fast on 87 octane.

(one cam sensor, uncommon problem)(CKP's generally show a low speed coast-down stall). Would you be willing to try a DIY throttlebody cleaning and same for the EGR? If not, watch your dealer for a spring tuneup special and explain your problem.

As some of us in here preach, take a quiet afternoon, head for the hills, and drive it like you stole it. Northstars hate low speeds. Go to the top of this page in the black area and read the entire Technical Archive. Particularly WOT.

Re: 2002 DHS Stalls

OK Thanks. Have always done the WOT , so will take a look at the TB. I had cleaned my 96 TB at 100,000 but with the 2002 at 58,000 I didn't think it would be a problem Yet.

Yeah Ranger I meant the crank sensors. Both were replaced

Sorry about that. I am a native tree hugger myself but I want my 26MPG back. It drops to just over 20 MPG with this ethanol mix. Bought a tank of non- ethanol last week outside of portland on a trip and was back up to 26MPG.

Re: 2002 DHS Stalls

That must be all freeway driving. You definitely are not getting that around town. I'm lucky to maintain 16 when I'm doing runs through Philly.

Re: 2002 DHS Stalls

Tonkin, 100K is WAY too long for a TB cleaning. 58K is pushing it. I think GM recommends every 30K. I do mine every spring as part of my spring clean up ritual.
