washer fluid

There are no dumb questions..but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots...

That being said...

How much washer fluid does the reservoir hold? I've rarely had to add fluid..but recently, I've been putting in a gallon every few weeks.

I haven't seen any leaking out..but maybe I just haven't noticed.

Re: washer fluid

Lotsa salt spray in Minnesota, I'll bet. Maybe it holds 3 quarts or maybe a bit more? Do both sides of the windshield get sprayed ? Equally ? If not, maybe a washer hose problem. Losing flouid.......maybe a cracked reservoir. There will be some blue caked residue near a crack. (Most fluid is blue for some marketing reason, even though it contains alcohols, which are clear ((except Bourbon..))).

Re: washer fluid

I think it holds close to a gallon when bone dry.

Re: washer fluid

I'm guessing then that ther's a leak. A few months ago when I first got the "check washer fluid" I went a couple more months before adding a gallon. And then it was bone dry. Took the whole gallon..then a few weeks later I got the message again..took anotherfull gallon.

Oh well..I'm figuring washer fluid is probably cheaper than a repair

Re: washer fluid

Sounds like it has a leak. Should be pretty easy to locate.

Fix it. If it is the container, replace it.

Re: washer fluid

I would think a windshield washer fluid container leak is a perfect candidate for a JB Weld chemistry repair.

Not pressurized. Not exposed to "high" temperatures.

Re: washer fluid

Absolutely. The only problem is, if I remember correctly it is tucked down in the fender well and the splash shield has to be removed. Not a job for most ladies.

Ha..I think you were goading me again Well, I'm not "most" ladies. On the other hand, I'm also not very strong and really don't like getting all dirty.

Re: washer fluid

You don't need to be strong for this job, but you WILL get dirty. These are not jobs for ladies anyway. You need to get a man to do it for you.

Re: washer fluid

Ranger, she'll stick this one in your ear: Next thing you know she'll have a filter wrench and rubber gloves. (7 1/2 quarts and a WIX 51522).........) If my 36 year old daughter can change her own oil and filter, so can ArcticCatMom.
