Electrical Issue

I'm not sure if this topic has been discussed before or even has been and issue for anyone but...

I have a 1998 Cadillac Deville with the Digital Instrument display. On a recent trip of about 3 hours I locked up my car when I arrived and went in to the b-ball game. When I came back to the car the gear selector lights were still on and the squares around them were flashing. Then the ac/heat display went out and showed two dashes were the temperature and outside temp readings should have been. I could not turn off the headlight manually except by turning off the car. The interior light toggle could not turn on any or all of the interior lights and the battery guage was draining.

I drove home and when I woke the next morning the battery was dead, but the gear selector lights were still pulsing.

I replaced the battery and the selector lights would still not turn off when I turned off and locked the car and the other things described before were still happening. I replaced the battery and have just been disconnecting the negative at night to save the battery but I still am having the issues.

Has anyone had a similar problem or the exact problem I am having?

(I know this is my first post, I won't be one of those members that asks questions and then just leaves, so please any help would be greatly appreciated.)

Re: Electrical Issue

I had my friend that worked for chevy pull up the diagnostics (I suppose this is what you mean by dtcs) on the onboard control panel. He claimed that no codes came up. I can run through the diagnostic panel again, but if I don't come up with anything out of the ordinary what should I do?

Re: Electrical Issue

Yeah DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code.

Not sure what to tell you there. Maybe pull battery power for a few minutes. While the cables are off, touch them together.

Re: Electrical Issue

I just pulled the factory radio and tried to test it without this in there because someone told me that the radio may have shorted the anti-theft system. In their case they were speaking of an after market radio but it was worth a shot. Didn't work and put it back together.

The battery won't die if I take the Comfort&Control fuses out of the trunk fuse panel. I just have to put them back in when I drive so I know the gas reading and etc.

An item to add is that BEFORE any of this odd stuff started happening, sometimes my interior lights would work and other times they would not. Along with the lights the driver window works sporadically, caddy dealer said they fixed this, their fix only worked for a short while just until the part was out of warranty again.

So far I am without:
Manual Headlight Shutoff
Manual Headlight Power
Truck Release, Gas Release buttons
AC/Heat display and related components
No defog either.

Re: Electrical Issue

WE FIGURED IT OUT! Woot.

Well my chevy tech friend printed me some diagrams from alldata and we traced the the wire leads from the headlight switches and found that a ground wire had snapped. After replacing it my caddy is back to itself.
