EDIT: And the cruise buttons were probably where the driver was holding onto the wheel. My uncle is in the salvage biz and I've seen steering wheels twisted all sorts of strange ways from the drivers hanging onto them. It's creepy, actually. And if you're not wearing your seat belt a flying body makes a mess of a plastic dashboard.

all the ones i sent you before im 90% are all DTS | CadillacSTS2003 - How do you search for all this stuff at salvage yards? I would LOVE to get access to some of these, everytime I do a Google for Cadillac Junk Yards I get generic crap listings. Any pointers on how to find the year/make/model/parts available/complete with pics of cars? It's like you are pulling them out of thin air. Whats the secret man!
BTW, I cleared out my PM box, I'm only allowed 10?? YUK!! |

If I remember correctly. The standard column shift cable will reach the shifter. But the inner cable is longer then the floor shifter version. Hence the required mod for mine.
Thanks to Turbojimmy for my carpet parts.
Also for turbojimmy, relating to why the air bags did not deploy.
If I am looking at the correct DTS picture, it appears that car hit a very narrow object.
Air bag sytems and narrow objects do not work very well together. The air bag module needs to 'see' a rapid velocity change for deployment.
Narrow objects can slice right thru a car.
The air bag module may never even 'see' a narrow object in time. The air bag module has maybe 10-20 ms to determine the 'trend' of the accident event for deployment. After that the accident is over. Past the point of the air bags even being useful.
The air bag module has to predict the velocity change. It cannot wait until the accident event is over to decide deployment. It makes this prediction based on velocity change it 'sees' over a very short period of time. Maybe inital 10-15 ms.
The air bag SDM simply cannot detect a narrow object impact in time for the system to detect and deploy the bags in a useful manor. If the air bags had deploy it would of caused more injuries.
Incredible as it sounds. I see no deployment here. Car is ruined...but they walked away.
Drive that same car into a solid wall. The bags will go.
