'05 DeVille - head gasket problem

I know that this had been discussed many times and I did do a thorough search on this issue.

I have a leased '05 DeVille. Great ride. Have considered keeping it after lease is up in June. Never a problem.

Is there any source that can identify the % of Northstar engines that experience this problem??? I made the mistake of asking a local Cadillac dealership. Spoke to a salesman, big mistake. He never heard of the problem.

Head gasket failures seem to decrease the later you go from 2000 models. There was a design change on the block in 2000 and I believe subsequent updates after that. I do not think I have seen a post of anyone having an HG go on a post-2002 car and I think 2002 issues are rare. You ought to be pretty safe in an 05

Agreed. Failures post '00 are few and far between. I really can't remember seeing one in here. Just make sure you do the GM recommended coolant changes, fudge a bit....maybe every 4 years. If you don't feel like doing the work, wait until one of the spring or fall dealer specials. Even if it's $75 - $100 you save the mess and dirt, and you also have a dealer to ping on if you're not happy.......

Gentlemen:

Thank you very much for your input. I really like this car. One of the finest I've ever had. It's has the Limited Edition package which includes some nice features including the Sun Roof. This car has been flawless. I feel much more comfortable about a decision to keep this one. Thanks again for the information.
