Traction control takes over first gear?

Remove this ad
I have a 1995 Deville concours and it starts in second gear as some sort of safety feature when the traction control is turned off. My issue is that traction control doesn't work so there for it won't turn on, and therefore no 1st gear.

Anyone know how to bypass this or possible ways to fix traction control?

Thanks

Re: Traction control takes over first gear?

It's programmed that way. No fix. Later models allow 1st with TC OFF.

Re: Traction control takes over first gear?

Well, then i gotta get this traction control back on somehow, would you have any idea what would cause it not to work?

Re: Traction control takes over first gear?

Start by pulling any codes out of the obd, and go from there.(do a search if you dont know how to pull codes yourself)

Re: Traction control takes over first gear?

i got the following codes P052, P071, P109, P137 and S060, S061 and T027, T032.

P137 means loss of TCS data. Does this mean i dont have the data to run the traction control. Could i get teh data to run it?

if thats mot the case i hope one of the other codes explains my problem.

thanks

Re: Traction control takes over first gear?

I am no expert by any means, and there are probably others on this board who no a lot more about this than me. That being said I would guess that P137, S060, S061, T027, and T032 are all part of the same problem. It's probably, and this is just a guess, something like a bad wheel position sensor, or wheel speed sensor or something of that sorts. I would also clear all those codes out and see which ones come back right away. "justanswer.com" might be of a lot more help than me. I actually used them once before and they were very helpfull, $15 to an online mechanic is a lot cheaper than the dealer(you dont even pay if you dont like the answer). They could at least head you in the right direction.

Re: Traction control takes over first gear?

I read your OP incorrectly, assuming that you had manually turned off TC, not that TC was malfunctioning.

Your other replies are correct: Follow the codes and diagnose the transmission problem. (My manuals don't have your earlier code sequence.)

Re: Traction control takes over first gear?

My 95 Deville Concours has the same problem. On obd1 cars you can go into pcm override then go to ps24 and push warmer once. It will say 99 and you'll have 1st gear for 11 ignition cycles.

Re: Traction control takes over first gear?

You can wire a switch from the BOO switch to activate the back brake lights and you will gain 1st gear WITHOUT traction control. At least having traction ON. This is just for future reference. Your problem is not caused by this.

Re: Traction control takes over first gear?

He has a transmission fault which has disabled TC, he has not turned it off with a switch. His P, S, and T codes give the answers.
