The air bag light in my 2002 Cadillac Deville just came on while I was driving. I had a friend who has a scanner check it out and he said it was something about "Driver Pretens Deployment Loop". He tried to clear the code but the car would not let him. Can anyone give me some advice on what Might be wrong. Is this something the dealer needs to fix or can I try and Do it. Any help is Appreciated.
Thank You all in advance

Go to the Tech Tips section and read the sticky on top. Pull your own codes then get the definitions here. http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd2.html |

If someone could help me that would be great.
Thank You

A Factory Service Manual will have the diagnostic and repair procedure for all codes. eBay or www.helminc.com are two possible sources. An online Alldata subscription might also, but I have never used it.
You may have a problem in the steering column given its a driver side code. Hopefully something simple like a poor or broken wiring connection. |

I had a few codes in the History but the Current One is B0065 - Left Front/Driver Pretensioner Deployment Loop Open. Anyone have an idea on what That could be and how easy or hard it is to fix.
Thank You All,

If you look at the seat belt buckle, it has a area that resembles a acccordian. This area will snug up in a deployment. The seat belt buckles need to be replaced after a deployment.
That being said. There is a connector very near the seat belt buckle that connects it to the air bag system. The connector can often get dirty or loose. I suspect if you check this connector it will fix the car.

Logan Diagnostic LLC www.ledfix.com www.airbagcrash.com www.logandieselusa.com | I was able to wiggle the connector on mine a few times to clear the code before it wouldn't work anymore (code wouldn't go away). I had to replace the buckle. As I recall I could do it with the seat in the car, but it would've been much easier with it out.

I added a pic showing the seat pretensioner.

Check the connector as Logan suggests. Often when beverages spill it gets down there.
If the connection is clean, most likely the pretensioner is bad - assuming the wiring harness is OK (usually is). They're not that expensive, roughly $150 or so list. Did two on STS in the last few months, 98 and 02. You'll have to pull the seat for replacement, or at least unbolt it and shift it out of the way to gain access to the pretensioner retaining bolt. |
