Most of the time you don't even know it until you step on the gas and it does nothing. Going into town, which is about 12 miles, it will stall one or two times. The car starts right back up as if there is nothing wrong.
I tried running it hard and it seems to help for awhile, but started stalling again in a short time. When the car is run hard, you can smell rotton eggs a little when the car is stopped. I thought it was kind of odd to smell that at only 38,000 miles. I wouldn't think the catalytic converter would be plugged at that milage.
You step on the gas and it will put you back into the seat. It runs really good. I'm hoping it's not a short or the computer. I thought maybe a gas filter, but my mechanic said no. It's also not leaving a code.
I'm hoping someone in this forum has had the same kind of problem. |

Had to put in Neutral or Park to keep it running
at a light.
It turned out to be the EGR valve. |

Also a code like P0300, near stall. ...and check for sluggish EGR codes, too.
You're not alone, by any means. Go back in the N* Performance threads and start looking for words like - slow speed stall, CKP, stall, engine stalls, etc.
Not a difficult or expensive fix. Just a minor PITA. |

| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | | Re: 2002 Deville stalls I took the caddy for 2 weeks (it's the wife's car) to get it to do the stall thing for me so I could pull the codes. Did not do it for me one time. I gave it back to her and within 2 days, stalled 3 times. Anyway it gave me the codes for the position sensor. Now I just need to change them. How hard is it to change these sensors? Do I need special tools? and will I need a lift or can I just jack up the car and still get to them?
I know they are located near the oil filter, but if it's going to be a bear to change, I just have my mechanic change it. |

Age: 61 | | | Re: 2002 Deville stalls You have to remove the oil filter adapter to get at them. They are above it. A bit of a job and a tight space, but doable. No special tools. Probably a good idea to have a new oil filter adapter gasket (or "O" ring). |

The car really needs to be up in the air to give you the best view of the procedure.
You have the rest of the weekend......read up on "CKP" in the Technical and N* threads.
Take Ranger's advice and have the necessary oil filter adapter o-rings on hand and, if your car has an oil cooler, new fittings per FSM. Make sure the new CKP's you get are made in Japan, NOT Mexico. There are 2 CKP's, an upper (B), and a lower (A), with different p/n's, 12575481 & 2. The electrical connectors will only fit the proper CKP. |

About how much does this precedure cost to have it done by a mechanic and or Caddy dealer? |

| | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | | Re: 2002 Deville stalls I just changed my crank sensors on a 2000 Deville a week ago . First time I did it. It is fairly easy. I did it without any special tools.
1. Pull car up on ramps. (Or Jackstands)
2. Remove lower plastic splash shield.
3. Remove oil filter.
4. Remove oil filter adaptor.
5. You will be looking right at the 2 CKP's.
6. Unplug the wire on lower. (you will need a small screwdriver to unlock tang on connector)
7. Take a 10mm socket & ratchet and loosen bolt. Sensor will pull right out.
8. Do the same for upper sensor.
9. Install upper sensor & replug wire.
10. Do the same for lower.
11. Install NEW O-rings in filter adaptor (get these from GM dealer) and rebolt.
12. Install oil filter and plastic splash shield.
13. Have a beer and enjoy saving the $$$ the Caddy dealer wanted.
USE AC/DELCO CKP's. They are made in Japan. That's waht you want.
There was some discussion about a sensor Re-learn. I had no issues after installing mine. If this needs to be done, the car will still run but I think a code will display. You will have to take to a dealer with proper equipment.
GOOD LUCK and wait for engine to cool down! (I found out the oil stays HOT!!!) | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
