I just changed my crank sensors on a 2000 Deville a week ago . First time I did it. It is fairly easy. I did it without any special tools.
1. Pull car up on ramps. (Or Jackstands)
2. Remove lower plastic splash shield.
3. Remove oil filter.
4. Remove oil filter adaptor.
5. You will be looking right at the 2 CKP's.
6. Unplug the wire on lower. (you will need a small screwdriver to unlock tang on connector)
7. Take a 10mm socket & ratchet and loosen bolt. Sensor will pull right out.
8. Do the same for upper sensor.
9. Install upper sensor & replug wire.
10. Do the same for lower.
11. Install NEW O-rings in filter adaptor (get these from GM dealer) and rebolt.
12. Install oil filter and plastic splash shield.
13. Have a beer and enjoy saving the $$$ the Caddy dealer wanted.
USE AC/DELCO CKP's. They are made in Japan. That's waht you want.
There was some discussion about a sensor Re-learn. I had no issues after installing mine. If this needs to be done, the car will still run but I think a code will display. You will have to take to a dealer with proper equipment.
GOOD LUCK and wait for engine to cool down! (I found out the oil stays HOT!!!)

Thanks for all the replies! Another two questions. First the car sometimes cuts off when coasting. It did it once when I was coasting at about 35 mph, and did it again when coasting at about 10mph. Is this part of the same problem with it cutting off at stop lights, or might it be yet another issue?
Second the A/C doesn't cut on right when I put the fan on high and temp all the way down to 60. It usually comes on after the engine has been revved high for a few seconds. But that doesn't seem right.
I am having the exact same issue as a few of you. My 2002 Sedan de Ville stalls at any given time for no apparent reason, then when I crank it over it starts right back up again. it dosnt necessarily stall when coming to a stop , it will stall anywhere any time. I have no check engine light coming on or no other issues. I ran a code check from info I obtained here in this group and here are the codes that appeared.
I have no idea what these codesd are but the only current one is
IPM B0429 Current. My question is do I bother looking for anything else or should I just replace the CKP sensors and go from there. The other question I have is in regards to the vibrations that a lot of ppl have at 60 to MPH. Are those vibrations the result of applying the brake at that speed or just coasting along at that speed and the vibration is there. I have vibrations at that speed but only as I apply the brake which tells me likely that the rotars are bad. Any input is appreciated!

Hey,
i had similar stalling problems with my 03' deville, due to a vacuum line becoming disengaged, had to replace my "map" sensor and it now need a idle air control valve, it runs but it idles high.
This may be something for you to check on your car.
