The dealer gave me a chrysler warrany contract that covers the car power train for 12/15,000. He claims the warrenty will cover the head gasket. When i looked at the contract is says that it coverers "factory defects", it dosn't seem that this would apply. I don't want to contact the warrenty provider right now (more to the story), what do you guys think? |

Well, I would say if it failed during the warranty period, it's a factory defect, but I am not the one laying out $3 -$4K. They may (and probably will) argue that point I would guess. |

The headgaskets are kind of a factory defect, since cadillac decided to use shitty aluminum and too short of headbolts. I am with ranger tho, chances are they will do whatever they can not to shell out 3-4K, and if they do repair it, they won't do it properly and try to get the cheapest price. Same thing happened to me, bought a 96, two weeks later hg's blew. |

I would define "Factory Defect" as something that has not been replaced since it left the factory. So if the headgaskets had been done already by Bubba the Bag Boy and his six-pack sidekick the warranty would not cover it (although I don't know how they'd prove it). If it has a remanned alternator that might not be covered because its not "factory." But if the HGs are original it should be covered unless that part is specifically excluded in the contract. |

Your first mistake was to pay $7k for a '99 Deville cause that is way to high for one of these. I regularly see them for $3-$5k some with low miles like yours. The head gaskets are a very common issue with the Northstar cars and because this issue is so well known the used car value of these cars are low. Its a very expensive repair $3-$4k and if not fixed right it could do it again.
If I have a "car power train for 12/15,000" I would expect the powertrain to be covered in the event of catastrophic failure. RAISE HELL with anyone at the dealership or warranty provider who tries to tell you otherwise. Good luck to you and let us know what happens. |

No dents, dings or fades. You would swear it was a new car. I called the dealership today and they said bring the car back and we will fix the problem.
If they do it right is the big question. I'll let you all know how I made out. Thanks for the advice and support... Sean |

Here in FL I find them cheap but in other states they may fetch more. So you may not have overpaid. I unloaded my Deville when the head gaskets blew instead of fixing it. Good luck with the repair. |

Yeah, a lot of the extended warranties won't cover gaskets and seals...you'll have to read thru the fine print to see if it is. Good luck though!
