Transmission going?

'95 Deville. Driving home from work the other night and it shifted fine from first to second then wouldn't go any further. Before I made it home it got to the point that the car would barely move. Next day, it went into gear fine for about a mile or so then wouldn't move at all. Thought I'd have to have it towed, however after sitting for about twenty mins it got me back home. I checked the fluid and it is black. Any idea if a fluid change would help or is the transmission just gone?

If the fluid is black. I would suspect it is too late for a fluid change.

How many miles on it ? I didn't like the black fluid either .
