    Question noise after shutdown

I have a 1990 sedan deville. The car is making a noise after I turn the car off. It's almost a vibrating, gargling noise. It seems to come from near the battery area, just behind the battery, closer to the firewall (not towards the headlight side). Does anyone know what this noise is? It would continue for a few minutes, maybe 5 or so, then stop. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have the same thing-does the gas pedal move up and down when this is happening?

Not sure about the gas pedal moving. I usually notice the noise when I walk away from the car. This noise happens even after I completely turn the car off and remove the keys and walk away from the car.

Open the hood and see if you can hear what it's coming from. Maybe it's the compressor for the leveling system.

You might check the coolant level when it is cold to see if the system is full. Check the radiator itself, not just the overflow coolant recovery bottle. If the system is low and it "afterboils" when you shutdown due to high coolant temps and low coolant level it will make noise like that as the coolant gurgles into the overflow bottle.

Open the hood when you park like that and see if the noise is bubbling into the coolant recovery bottle. If so, it is the afterboil phenomenon which is not really normal and would indicate the engine is running hot and/or low on coolant. If the radiator itself is low and yet there is coolant in the coolant recovery bottle there is a problem with the radiator cap and/or the hose connecting the rad cap fitting to the coolant recovery bottle.

Sounds like the air compressor for the ride leveling system. Check behind the battery for a small comp. It will be vibrating when you hear the noise you have are getting . Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, hotrod that's what it is. I did a search of old post. But this is probably not related to the other problem of stalling that I am having. Please see my other thread of E22, E32......

The noise I hear sounds like its cming from this little motor between the air box and the engine. near the driver side of the car. my battery is on the passenger side. So if its leveling, how do you know when your shocks/struts are bad? Thing feels nice and soft
