Trunk Pull Down Help!!!!

Remove this ad
Yesterday afternoon i was at the park playing basketball when i got the ball out of my trunk and shut the trunk it did not pull down like it normally does. I didn't worry about it because from time to time it has done this and then like 10-15 minutes later it has pulled the trunk down. Well not this time i'm still riding around with my trunk open because the pull down motor does not seem to be working. I think the trunk motor has seen better days so does any one know how to change the trunk motor or have a DIY guide on how to do it.

I really hate GM right now

Thanks in advance.

Re: Trunk Pull Down Help!!!!

Might just be a bad switch. I have pulled the motor and taken it apart to replace the brushes on my '92. Just pull the trunk liner back and it is easy to remove. Do a search as this has been discussed before. BTW, what year car?

I think it is on or next to the motor.

Re: Trunk Pull Down Help!!!!

I have a 2000 El Dorado that is doing the same thing (trunk pulls down...sometimes). My lower latch is very loose (i.e. I can move side to side with my fingers). Anyone know how this works?

Thank you, Erik

Re: Trunk Pull Down Help!!!!

you can always just gently close your trunk and lock it with your key so you dont have to ride around with your trunk open

Re: Trunk Pull Down Help!!!!

Sorry, my "how does it work" question is too vague.

What I was wondering is:
What switch does what?

My trunk lid latch (attached to the trunk lid) seems to have a switch. What does it do?

My trunk retractor (attached to the back of the car) has a switch. What does it do?

Thanks again.

Erik

Re: Trunk Pull Down Help!!!!

Thanks Knuckles.

My lid does stay down, just not all the way. The lid bounces as I drive.

Re: Trunk Pull Down Help!!!!

No problem, I had bent my antenna in a drive through car wash (Stupid me forgot to turn the radio off!) and I didnt notice it until the next day when my battery was dead from trying to lower it all night. With the battery dead it meant the pull down trunk motor was dead as well, and I opened my trunk for something that day. I was at a loss for how to get it to closed until I could get my car jumped, and my friend said the most obvious thing yet I didnt even think to try it. Just simply closing it and locking it manually lol

Re: Trunk Pull Down Help!!!!

Hi Erik,

I have the same problem with my 99 Deville. I have 12 V to switch on trunk lid but no power beyond that.
My problem has been intermittent. I don't know if the switch on the lid evvects the pull down nmotor or not. I believe it does. Sure hope we can get get an answer.
Dennis
