The oil fill (with filter) is as follows:

    4.9 liter - 5.5Qt.
    4.6liter - 7.5Qt.

If you over-fill, it WILL leak out.

Thanks. I thought it was 5.5 but was just making sure it was not 5.0.

Generally thought to be a no-brainer idea, this procedure has led many a mechanic and owner alike to improperly fill their engine oil. Over the years, there have been several cars that for some reason or another, have been equiped with an improperly calibrated dipstick which would lead to over or under-filling the sump.
BOTTOM-LINE: Always go with the proper specified amount regardless of what the dipstick says.

That's nuts, all we have and can go by is what the stupid dipstick says. How can one ever know if they are improperly calibrated!? I can imagine GM using an Impala dip for a Caddy to save money.

The SAFEST bet is to fill the engine with the "proper" amount and then see where the oil shows on the dipstick. If it shows "FULL", then you're ok. If not, re-mark the dipstick for future use.

That's a good tip. I will take notice when I do my first change.
