    '96 DeVille keyless entry

We have a 96 DeVille and our keyless entry fobs work when they feel like it. We have changed batteries, taken them apart and cleaned the contacts. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get them to work most of the time instead of when they feel like it. I have read about reprogramming them. Would that help? Thanks, Gail

If that doesn't work, change the whole system.

    Re: '96 DeVille keyless entry

I lately bought a 97 and one remote worked (almost not used at all) and one didn't (icons almost worn off totally).

I did what you did - took it apart and cleaned, checked battery, etc. Programmed, re-programmed, re-syned, etc.

The little white box (an electric component) inside seemed to be 'loose'. And I found if I pushed a button while 'shaking' it, it would mostly work.

I deemed it 'broken', and bought new ones off eBay. Get the GM part numbers and FCC codes from off the back, and buy the same ones, or one that the ebay seller will guarntee is the same and will work with your car.

I bought 2, paid about $15 for one, about $30 for the other. Reprogammed one of the new ones and the old one and am now have 2 working ones.

The #1 and #2 business on the remotes doesn't seem to really mean much, except for you to keep tell them apart. I really think you can have 2 #1's or 2 #2's and they will work ok. You must re-program both of them, because when you re-program this wipes out the codes for both remotes - but you can then re-program any 2 of them to work.......
