ok guys long storey short i have coolant in my throttle body, which i just figured out was comming from the valve cover vent tube. i blew the vent hose out onto piece of paper and some greenish brown coolant came out. thus meaning theres coolant under that front valve cover, which means a leaky head gasket right? i have slowly been loseing coolant over time, however the oil dipstick never showed any coolant in the oil. So am i missing something here or do i have hg that just leaking coolant into the oil and not into any of the cylinders?

Re: tell me its not a head gasket 02' deville

What vent tube? The purge line? Greenish brown? Don't you have Dex in it? There is no coolant under the cam cover.

Northstars rarely leak coolant into the oil. I think the TB has coolant running through it if I recall correctly. I would think you just have a leak somewhere.

I think you are panicking from reading too many HG posts. Relax and give us some more information.

Re: tell me its not a head gasket 02' deville

the breather line that comes off the front valve cover that goes to the top of the throttle body, i believe it vents the gasses from the valves and such into the intake to be burned off. anyway water is coming from there and dripping into the throttle body an onto the throttle plate and puddling at the bottom. and yea its brownish green i think the previous owner put some regular coolant in there.

Re: tell me its not a head gasket 02' deville

That sounds like the PCV line. Can't imagine how any coolant could get into that line. Has your coolant level been dropping?

Re: tell me its not a head gasket 02' deville

i using somebody elses pics here but see the black hose at the top left next to the ratchet? its disconnected in the pic and laying on top of the nipple next to the black harness plug.

and how much psi should be coming out of that nipple when the car is running? it seems like there is a lot of air flowing out of there, maybe thats normal though.

Yup, that's the PCV line. Again, I can't imagine how it could possibly get coolant in it.

Re: tell me its not a head gasket 02' deville

Question, Can you change the pcv valve on 02 deville? I wanted mine changed at the dlr and they said, "PCV valve not on this model" on the paperwork when i picked it up.
Sorry I hope I havent taken over your Post.

Re: tell me its not a head gasket 02' deville

The head gasket is on the bottom of the head. The PCV is in the cam cover on the top of the head. I'd say it is very unlikely to impossible for a head gasket leak to find its way into the PCV line.

I don't think it has a PCV "valve". It has a metered hole. Nothing to change. Start a new thread if you have any more questions.

Re: tell me its not a head gasket 02' deville

i installed a water trap on the pcv line today. i see coolant steaming into the clear bottle and starting puddle at the bottom of it. Defiantly got coolant in the valve cam area. but the oil in the oil pan (on the dipstick) still looks good, no traces of anything but oil. if its not the start of a hg leak i have no idea what else it could be. Still have a rough idle for the the first 30 secs every time i start the car after it sets long enough to cool down ( at least 20 mins) it could be unrelated but i dont get any codes for it.

At this point im undecided if im going to take it to a shop and see what they say or wait till the problem gets worse.Other than having to add coolant once a month a lil rough idle when it starts the car runs great. with only 53k miles and no overheating, no smoke, no codes and still hauls ass when you step on it. it really makes me wonder.....
