Air Condition Whoas....

88' Fleetwood FWD....
Went to charge my A/C today and actually put 3 - 12oz cans of Freon in
and cold air was coming through after the 3rd can....suddenly LOUD hisses and sputters came from the engine and from what I could tell in the area of the Compressor(?). Actually seen what was freon mist.....
Have you seen or heard of this? What can I do? Do you know
where I can get info on the layout of the A/C system on this vehicle?
We bought this car a few months ago and the individual failed to tell me
that it wasnt working....or did I fail to ask him...hehe!.
Anyway, what can I do or what do I need to look at, etc...
Is this better off in the hands of an A/C mechanic? I hope that I can
do something on my own first to avoid heavy costs....

Your best source of specific information is a FSM (not Haynes or Chiltons). Ebay is your friend. I don't know how much your system holds, but perhaps you overfilled it. I think there is an over pressurization pop off valve. That may be what you saw, or something blew. With that kind of a pressure relief, there should be some telltale oil at the leak point.

There is "oil" at where I saw the Blow-off. If it just overcharged, and blew it....wouldnt it still have freon enough to cool?
Or do you think it discharged more than the overage?

I would guess it would vent down to a max limit, but I really am not sure.
