I did my research but, didn't find a solid answer on the threads I read. This is the code for Passenger side Airbag Sysytem Malfunction. It also had the code for the driver side but got cleared which was b1147. Thats history as the self diagnostic computer put it. I reset the codes that were history and this one b1148 and acm 1315 were left current. B1315 is the ac no problems with that . My concern is the Air bag. Is that the one on the door or in front of the passenger in the dash. What can I do to correct. For now removed the SIR fuse in the trunk hope that is enought for the thing not to go off accidently. PLease advice. Will take all safety measures. |

We need more information, what year/model is your car?
The air bag light doesn't mean the air bag is going to "go off" for no reason. It means that the air bag may not work at all when you need it to.
The failsafe is OFF, not in your face at random... for obvious reasons.
Removing the fuse disables the WHOLE system so no one is safe, which granted isn't much better than not knowing which one won't work.
Give us some more info and we'll see what kind of help we can offer. |

You can get them new from http://www.helminc.com, but they are pricey, though worth every penny. Don't waste money on Chiltons or Haynes. Ebay is your friend. |

I have a minute to look... but barely... let's see.
Wow, this code is more complicated than I thought.
Has the car been in an accident? The first part of the chart looks like it suspects the vehicle has had a side impact if this code is set.
This code is for the Side Impact Sensing Module in the B pillar area.
Let me know and I'll look again tomorrow if I can find some more time. |

I do thank you for finding time to help us. Well the car has never been in a accident. I bought it from the first time owners. They said that after a mechanic replaced the AC Blower it started ashowing all these errors. Now at one point it was advising me that both airbags were bad Error Code b1147 and b1148 which are the both side airbags. But for some reason the b1147 went history I cleared it and hasn't come back since. I wish b1148 cleared itself too but, it's still current. lol Thank You
Oh yeah, You mentioned that "This code is for the Side Impact Sensing Module in the B pillar area." Where and what is this? |

On an Escalade or SRX it would go to D for the extreme rear.
Inside the post or on the post itself for the B pillar there is a module that senses a side impact and reports to the SDM, or airbag module, and then the SDM determines what to do, such as deploy the side bags.
From what I looked at last night, the problem seems to be that the SDM cannot get proper communication with the side impact module.
This is actually not the bag, but a sensor for the side impact detection system.
I'll try to do more research later.
Busy day again! |

Meanwhile tomorrow morning I'll go into the pillar and see if there is any loose connections or such. I assume it is around the seatbelt area. No harm by checking. Thanks again. |

| | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | | Re: Service Air Bags Error Code B1148 Ok, I couldn't wait I opened up the whole side next to the carpet and all of the B Pillar there is no sensor. The only wires wrapped in yellow go under the passenger seat and maybe even to the driverside didn't have time to remove seat will do that tomorrow morning. Thanks |

Sorry if I mislead you.
Bear with me. I think today might be slower than the rest of this week has been.
At least this afternoon it might be. |

| | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | | Re: Service Air Bags Error Code B1148 Don't worry I know its an older model and maybe there is not a lot of info out there. I know, because I haven't been able to find anything. I notice underneathe the carpet of the driver side there is a module that has some connections to the airbags. Bad thing is today is a busy day for me too won't be able to take off the seats. You did not misslead me. To a point its almost trial and error. Besides I also have to do my part. Thank you very much. |

I had forgotten since most everything newer is in the body and the seats instead of the door.
You have to remove the door panel to inspect it.
You could even have a wire broken in the passthrough between the door and the body.
Be careful if that is the case.
The module in question is located towards the lower front corner of the door behind the panel. |

The airbag system has absolutely nothing to do with the HVAC. I had a 1999 BMW 328i that had a strange airbag fault also and it was hit on the right side as well. The guy who repaired it disconnected the airbag computer apparently because he could never figure out what was causing the fault, or didnt really care.
