Oil Pressure

I wanted to know what is the normal oil pressure reading for a 97 deville. I have just rebuild the engine, but did not replace the oil pump. After the car runs for about 10 minutes the oil light starts coming on, on idle only. I replaced the oil filter with a more expensive one, and also replaced the oil pressure switch. New rod and main bearings were put in the engine, even thoguh the old ones did not look bad at all, decided to to the whole engine, even thogh only the head gaskets were blown. I wonder if this could be my oil punp causing the problem ( is this common on northstars)?

All I know about pressure spec's is from the Service Manual which says;
Minimum pressure at normal operating temperature at idle = 5 PSI
Minimum pressure at normal operating temperature at 2,000 RPM = 35 PSI

If the replacement oil pressure switch is the OEM part, you might plumb in a mechanical gauge to check the pressure before you start hearing nasty noises.

You did torque the harmonic balancer to the correct spec., right?

I second Jim. If you did not use an A/C Delco switch, that may be your problem. The harmonic balancer torque is what drives the pump and if it is not torqued to spec (quite high) the pump drive will slip.

Thanks guys, I noticed that my harmonic balancer is out of balance, it wobbles a lot, I ordered one and i will pick it up today, I will get back to yall and tell yall if this helps.
