synthetic TRANSMISSION oil

any thought on synthetic transmission oil for a 92 Fleetwood FWD 4.9 V8 engine? The tranny was rebuilt at about 80k and is now at 130k.

I am thinking about putting Syn. Tran oil in it for the first time.

Re: synthetic TRANSMISSION oil

Having just gone through this during my rebuild I have a few comments. Two things come to mind.

Unless you have the trans apart and can successfully drain everything, you're wasting your money.

Secondly at that point unless your going to keep the car for another 100k your wasting your money.

Now having said that, even after my trans guy told me it was a waste of money I chose to fill a new trans with Amsoil fluid. It cost me an extra $200 I think but it's a brand new empty trans in a car with 40k on it

Re: synthetic TRANSMISSION oil

I do intend to keep this car until the odometer hits 200k,(both of my Toyota Camry and Truck have gone passed that pt already) and I would be using Mobile 1 Synthetic Transmission oil @ $6.00/bottle x 6 quarts = $36.00.

My question is , do you experience leakage after you filled the tranny w/ synthetic oil?

Re: synthetic TRANSMISSION oil

Hmm No one has said anything about leakage to me. Why would Synth leak? Also note that my 4T80E holds 16 quarts. If it does leak I bring it back and get it fixed.

At that price and with your intent I would do it. It can't hurt anything it's really just a matter of cost.
