Well, I get one thing fixed on this car and something else goes to hell...just got the drivers side windows working and now I'm popping codes all over!
P029-history
p039-current
s030-current
I think this car hates me. I almost got stuck on I235 in Des Moines today trying to come home from drill. The trans wouldn't engage in third and I had to drive 55 in 2nd gear to the next exit, the engine was revving but it wouldn't get into 3! Shut the car down in a parking lot and pulled the codes. Fired it up and made a couple cautious loops around Merle Hay before I finally get back onto I80 to get home. No problems on the way up and not a single thing wrong with the speed sensitive steering that I noticed, no more slips in the trans either. What the heck is happening with this thing now?! I am a broke college student. I don't think I can afford a new tranny right now, so please tell me this isn't going to put me back in the ZX2 everyday?

Re: Son of a...

No familiar with the situation but your right, you can't afford a new trans. LOL I just had mine repaired at 45k and it cost me over $3k. That wasn't even at a dealership.

I don't think you have a trans problem if it went away. An actual transmission problem would mean hardware and if it went back to normal, it's not hardware related. Could be computer or a fluke problem.

Clear the codes and see if they come back

I know the feeling of panic and concern and it's not nice. Hang in there until you know for sure

What year car is it? Maybe just a bad shift solenoid.

I know that feeling, thats why I don't have mine anymore. Have you looked up what the codes mean, just type them in yahoo and you'll find what it means.

Re: Son of a...

It's 95. Already looked up the codes-
S030-Speed Sensitive Steering fault
P029(history)-Transaxle Shift 'B' Solenoid
P039-Torque Convertor Clutch Engagement
Where's the solenoid and how much? It's finally getting 'warm' here and I want to get this thing running right for more than two days at a time...have to change out the FPR as well, so might just do both at the same time when I get the parts. Also, the shifter handle isn't getting solidly engaged from park to drive and in 3rd. Just started this morning, when I moved the car in front of the apartment, what do I have to tear apart to tighten this down? Thanks for the help!

Re: Son of a...

If I think I know what I'm talking about the shift solenoids are what make up the lower valve body in the trans. Not sure what it would cost. Probably not bad since than can be done in the car.

The TC solenoid is a different story I believe but one fault may be causing both codes.

Re: Son of a...

From your description, it sounds like shift solenoids to me. Codewise is right. They are in the valve body, which is accessable after dropping the pan. Replace both "A" & "B" solenoids. Should not cost more than a couple of hundred bucks if you have it done. Less than $100 if you DIY.

Re: Son of a...

Sweet, that is some good news. Was thinking I was in for a new tranny for a while, yikes...I live in an apartment so I'll have to find somewhere to get a lift. There's a transmission shop here that's pretty good. I might call them to see what an install would cost if I buy the parts. They were really good about prices when I got the trans in the ZX2 serviced a while back, 79.00 for gaskets, filter and labor. Maybe I can get a good deal for two solenoids? Man, I need a jack and a driveway not crawling with morons...
