My 89 Fleetwood coupe is a sad story. My wife received the car from her uncle's estate in 1993 and the car was showroom with 11,000 miles. She drove it till 2000 and the car has 76K on the clock.
My wife was on her way to our cabin and the tread seperated on the right rear tire and scattered the skirt and associated plastic trim all over the freeway. I drove back and scooped up the parts(most intact) and the skirt had the tabs deformed when it was forced out by the rapidly exiting tread from the tire.
The car sat while I looked for a skirt which are hard to find in the yards here.
She was just using it to run to the store and she was rear ended ( the second nail in the coffin) and pushed the mid bumper in about 3-4 inches and made the trunk latch misalign an inch or so.
Then the car sat dormant till the end of 2006. I was in need of a vehicle, mine had expired and I needed a driver for awhile. I thought why not fire up the 89 cad and use it till I made arrangements to replace my truck. It only had 76 K on it, I could put it back on the road for a small expense(third mail in the coffin is coming).
I paid the back license and smogged it, had the wires and plugs along with rotor and stuff replaced. Put new tires on it and replaced the hood struts and off I went for a few days. My wife needed to take a trip for the week end of about 500 miles. The Cad made better mileage than her SUV, had new tires and a tune-up so she used it to visit her relatives.
On the return trip it started to heat up and she pressed (naturally)on till she got home. Yep, she drove it far enough hot to take out the head gasket. So although it still runs fine, it will suck all the water in the radiator and out the tail pipe in about 15 minutes....
So now I own a low mileage fleetwood coupe Parts car LOLOLOLOLO
too bad I let it set so long and did not check the radiator , it was full of junk from setting so long. Had I checked it and serviced it I would of had a car good for another 50,000 miles for the $1000 it took me to put it back on the road. alas..... it's wasn't the first mistake I ever made and won't be the last, but I sure liked that car , fleetwood coupes were my favorite of that era.
The pics of your "60" are beautifull hope you land the fleetwood coupe soon, that will be a great pair to own..
Thanks for your post
Joe
PS>>>>>>The aboslute best Cad I ever owned was a 64 coupe deville, the best riding handling and great performance. By todays standards probably not much of a car, but in 1964 it was God on 4 wheels
