    Cool98 Deville: Opinions Requested

have deliveloped a "got to have" attittude toward the 98 Deville. I am looking for any info anyone will give me, good or bad. I am presently a "practical" car owner, I drive an 83 Mercedes 300 Diesel. I know the Cadillac is a different breed.

What are the downsides of this car? How likely is it that this car would develop electronic problems? Might I be able to do a fair amount of repair and troubleshooting by buying a factory service manual for it?

I am past beginner level in auto tech skills but not what I would call "experienced". I do anything on my Mercedes 300D, 1999 Astro and 93 Thunderbird that doesn't require handheld terminal (scanner) or engine tear down.

I usually put 20,000 miles a year on a vehicle, mostly at speeds of 50 - 70 mph

    Welcome to the forums!!

I would think it would be a good fit.. As with all luxury cars they will require more maintenace and upkeep, but overall i think youll be happy, especially since you can work on them yourself!

It seems (to me) that 94/95 was the sweet spot for the older luxury cars... The 98 deville has great styling......

Fortunately. the computer onboard has a really good diagnostic system, you can view most parameters right from the dash, just like you would with a scan tool.....

Spend some time reading the forums and all will be revealed..

Jimbo, As you can see "Changes were minimal for 1998" there isn't much if any difference between a 97 and 98. If you serious about getting one of these with low mileage and at a great price you can check out my 97 DeVille D'Elegance here... http://www.cadillacforums.com/aucti...ns.php?a=2&b=69
    and call or write me.
    Thanks,
    Tim
