New Speakers For a 2000 Deville, What Do I Need?

Remove this ad
I have a 2000 Deville, and my back, center speaker is blown. I need to get it replaced, but I need to confirm what kind I need. I went to Cadillac and of course it would cost me like $650 to get it replaced. I went to best buy and talked to the car audio guy, and he said that if they are Bose speakers, then I can't replace the one speaker. I am pretty sure my speakers are not Bose, none of them are marked. So then I went to Fry's electronics, and talked to the installer which said that it is a 10" freeair speaker (without taking a look at my car). So I would just like to confirm that I need a new 10" freeair speaker. Also, im thinking about putting subs and a box in my trunk, but I don't realy know anything about sound systems. So could someone explain them to me? thanks.

if the radio says bose on it then its bose, if it doesnt say bose on it then they arent. i used a 10" incher but had to make a plate for it cause it wouldnt bolt up right, the hole is bigger than 10 inches if i remember right it was either 10.5 or 11

was yours blown too? did everything fit back together ok? I hear you have to take the back seat out and that panel back there to get to the speaker. I have taken the back seat out though, to find the battery.hahahaha it took us forever to find that thing. XD

Re: New Speakers For a 2000 Deville, What Do I Need?

yea i had to pull the backseat away, you in between each set of headrests is a huge metal clip, i GUESS you could slide a tool down there and force it down, but my hands did it pretty well, i just locate the clip, and push down while pullin the seat out. when you do all 3 theres a couple of plastic clips holding the carpeted shelf in, and youll also have to wiggle the seatbelt surround out of the shelf. the sub is also held on by plastic clips 6 of them.

maybe its just the sub i used, others may have had better luck or experience with it but...

anyways i used a wooden spacer and since they are cut square i had to round off two of the edges (i didnt have any tools so i didi it the ghetto way, i looked like a caveman sittin there grinding wood against concrete haha. but it came out smooth hehe)

i didnt have dynamat so i ultimately disconnected it cause it didnt perform to my liking (and it rattled the deck)

so you disconected the speaker? How does the sound system sound without it? Also, could a system in the trunk make up for it?

getting a signal to the subs, getting you can use a LOC but if the sub is blown and uninstalled it makes it harder

Re: New Speakers For a 2000 Deville, What Do I Need?

if you just hook an amp up to a speaker it just sits there, doing nothin. when you feed it sound (a signal in my words) then it reacts and reproduces that sound which in a subwoofers case would be bass. so if you decide to put an aftermsrket system in, you will have to run a power wire, a ground wire a remote wire and rca cables which will more than likely need to go to a line out converter (LOC). a line out converter takes speaker level (high) signals and turns it into low level signal, its usually a box with places to plug in speaker wires on one side and rca outs on the other side. the issue is, where to get the signal from. nvm, ill just let you run into the problem then explain it to you then
