    68 sedan deville problem

I just bought a 68 sedan deville and I am in the process of trying to get it home. The car has been sitting for almost 9 months according to the person who sold it to me. He also said that someone attempted to steal the car a couple of months ago by taking a screw driver to the ignition. I have replace the ignition and got the car running, but when I try to put it into gear, nothing happens. It doesn't seem like the transmission is engaging at all. The idle doesn't drop when switching it out of park. The person that sold it to me said that he had never had any problems like that before ( I do believe him ). Does anyone know what could be causing this? Is this common for cars that have sat for so long? Anyone have any ideas?

Silly question but... Have you checked the fluid? A small leak over 9 months would leave you with an empty trans. Make sure you check it with enging running.

I did check the fluid and it seemed fine although I didn't check it with the engine running. I'll try that tonight.

    Thanks for the reply.

MUAHAHHHAAHAH. Welcome to my world. SAME EXACT thing happened to me. Only mine was sitting for two years and went into reverse. I settled it with putting in a new transmission, and i'm still in the process of putting it in.

Uh Oh I better get my 68 running I'd hate to have this problem with it as everything is 30,000 miles original. It's been sitting all winter
