Started smelling cooking oil today after a bit of a hard run to class (was running a little late...err, about 20 minutes...) with the heater on. Didn't start until I pulled into the parking lot on campus and put the car in park. No weird rattles, no smoke, no SEL, no power loss/hesitation either. What in the heck is going on? I had an 83 Continental with a 351 that smelled like burning oil all the time, but that was because the main seals were shot and it needed new rings. But from what I've read except for the nasty top-end leak the N* is pretty much bullet proof. Run the car hard all the time (2nd around town 3rd up to 70 and only in OD on the highway) and this is the first weird thing to happen. Should I be worried about this new development? Thanks for the input!
PS-just had oil change 500 miles ago, and checked after class. level is fine, WTFO? |

I dunno, maybe your rear main is bad. Is there any oil on the ground? But motor oil doesn't smell like cooking oil though, so I dunno. |

Get under it and have a look around. Could be an oil filter adapter gasket, oil cooler line, pan gasket, etc, etc. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
