    How to buy a spoiler

I'm going to buy a spoiler for my DTS (as part of the secret project *wink wink) Anyway, you can buy them painted or primed.

It costs $56 more to buy it painted. Is that worth it. My son is going to school for auto body repair and tell me that it's worth it to buy it painted if they get the paint form GM.

Re: How to buy a spoiler

What's GM using these days for paint, Centari? Do you have one of those tri=colour jobs (white lightning or white diamond or any of the Firemist colours)? If that is the case, then it would definitely be less hassle and worth 56 bucks to have someone else do the match. Come to think of it, why not just get it done anyway?

Re: How to buy a spoiler

That's what I'm thinking Frost. The car is cashmere and now I see there are 2 colors listed as cashmere. There's Cashmere LT Metallic, which is what I think I have, and Cashmere LT Bronze.

I guess I'm going in the trunk and tracking down a paint code huh. Where on the sticker is it usually located and what am I looking for?

Re: How to buy a spoiler

It'lll be different than mine, Codewise - I have the '97 model. But it should be self-explanatory like paint cde. or some such.

Yeah, that's a bitch when they have 2 shades the same colour and year. I went to get a spray bomb made up for my colour because I plan on painting a few items under the hood (surge tank, dogbone brackets, etc.) and discovered that GM had 2 versions of light silvermist metallic, in 1997. As I didn't have the car with me and seeing as how the items would be under the hood and out of sight most of the time, I just picked one.

Guaranteed I made the wrong choice. It never fails: given a 50-50 decision, I will inevitably make the WRONG one!

Not seeing anything self explanatory. I looked on the build sticker under the spare tire cover and I looked on the door stickers. The only thing I see that stands out is 6KF69 but nothing says anything about what it's for.

Re: How to buy a spoiler

After doing some research found here
2001 PaintScratch Touch-Up Color Code Location

I went out and looked again to find on the bottom of the sticker

    BC/CC I'm assuming base coat / clear coat. U524F 156

Now when I look around I see that the Cashmere LT Bronze is actually 54U and the Cashmere MET is 15U. How do these colors correlate to what I see on my sticker? God this is confusing. I think it's 54U Light Bronze. What do you think

    I think that's it

Re: How to buy a spoiler

go for the painted spoiler. I tried saving a couple bucks and getting a primed bumper for my old Grand Prix and I wish I had the wasted money on paint and the time from repainting back. I hit it three times before finally saying screw it and taking it to have painted. And it wasn't as complicated a color as these new tri-coat colors are.

Re: How to buy a spoiler

When I bought my spoiler, I opted for the additional $100 for painted. I expected a decent aftermarket quality job, that was close in color. What I got was an OEM quality job, that matched exactly. I could not have gotten those results for that price at a local shop.

Re: How to buy a spoiler

Ok what do you think about getting it primed so I can put something custom on it like a big DTS-V on the top surface? Is that going overboard?

I'm thinking like do the lettering , lay the base coat peal off the lettering then clear? Am I getting out of control?

Unless I am missing something, wouldn't that yield unpainted lettering? They would just be primered. If you want to do something like that, then shhot the base first, then the lettering, and then clear.

Re: How to buy a spoiler

Well I would shoot it the color I wanted the letters, apply the letters, shoot the base, peel the letters and clear but you know this is getting to be to much.

I'm just going to order the damn thing and get it on the car. Anyone ever done this. I assume I'll be drilling the deck lid.

Does ayone have a DeVille with a spoiler? If so, where did you get it?

Re: How to buy a spoiler

i think shooting the base then peeling the letters then shooting another coat of base would create a ghost like effect right? THat might look pretty darn sweet!

definitely drilling involved. should come with a template and you just figure out the placement. not hard though done it on three cars of mine in the past.

Re: How to buy a spoiler

the only spoilers for your style Deville that I've seen is on the Vogue Tyre site, Codewise. They are very subtle, not garish in the least. I think you'll like it.

As for the lettering on it - your call buddy, but I think it might come off as a bit of too much bragging, no? It's not like you're gonna have to hit anyone over the head about it being a DTS-V. Why not stick with the emblems - they say it all and in a nice, assertive (and classy!) way.

Re: How to buy a spoiler

The ones at Vogue are the ones I was looking at but I think they're the same thing these guys are selling.

    Welcome to SportWing#

It seems there are two styles. What Vogue calls Version 1 and Version 2.

I think I like the Vogue Version 1 better. Version 2 hangs beyond the sides of the deck lid a little to far for me.

    So I'm looking at DEV-DTS-N

    I agree on the lettering.
