1999 STS Chrome wheels will not shine

My cousin has a Buick Regal with factory chromes that shine almost like mirrors in the sun. My STS's wheels have hardly any sheen to them, almost as if the clearcoat is gone. I'm afraid to use regular chrome polishes. Can anyone recommend a good chrome wheel cleaner and polisher that can bring some shine into these wheels?

I have a professional wheel cleaner and polish, however if the clear is gone like you say, nothing short of refinishing will do much good. I have brought back new life to wheels that looked dead, PM me for more details gk

    Can't PM, under 50 posts.

Under examination today, theres just alot of baked on brake dust. I took some clearcoat safe (just in case) paint cleaner (3M) and spent around an hour per wheel cleaning them up. They sure shine now! Now if I can make heads or tails of the countless posts here on disabling the onstar phone so I can have my HVAC steering wheel controls back, this car will be PERFECT!

Edit: I believe the clearcoat is intact, there was just a really heavy amount of brake dust, road dirt, and other crap on them

Question Re: 1999 STS Chrome wheels will not shine

Are you sure your STS has chrome wheels versus highly polished wheels? Highly polished wheels are clearcoated by Cadillac; chrome wheels do not have a clearcoat.

They're chrome, I'm not an idiot.

After cleaning them a whole lot, they shine great, pictures in this thread: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...-1999-sts.html

Never said you were, it is just that Cadillac has a highly polished wheel selection that people sometimes mistake as chrome. Your wheel should not have had a clearcoat over it; the highly polished wheels do.
