Have you priced out new glass yet? I was just wondering, I was quoted around $175.00 here in Austin for front glass, and that is installed OEM glass. Planning on doing that in the near future....few to many rock chips. As for cleaning glass, I've always had good results with the Zaino glass polish...but if you've gone as far as 0000 steel wool then .

Here ya go....just took these this afternoon....see what I mean about the streaks. Those aren't scratches....those are streaks. Damned if I can figure out what it is I'll wait and see what the Janvil stuff does then make my decision.

It looks like filmy residue alright. Rain-X and similar products are petroleum based aren't they? I would try the cook top cleaner first and if that didn't work, something like prekleeno used in body shops for removing oil, grease and other impurities prior to painting. If you use any of those you have to be extra careful that you don't get any of it on your paint. It will take off any wax and possibly damage the finish.

Do you notice any spotting on your paint? The spots from what I can see, look kind of like acid etching. Aluminum wheel cleaners use phosphoric acid to clean the wheel. But if you get it on glass, it will etch it. Once etched, the glass is ruined, and needs to be replaced.

    Walter,

$265.00 is the best price I've found so far up here in NY. I'll keep looking.

Try Isopropyl alcohol on a towel, if not try a glass polish.

    Re: Cleaning glass

Update....the Janvil Products stuff finally arrived today. I tried some on a part of the windshield and I think this stuff will do the trick....it's a 3 part system and I've only used the first step and can see a marked difference. I'll use the whole system over the weekend and report on the progress. So far, it looks like it will work.
