05 CTS: 20s or 22s???

Im on a big debate. I dont know what to get. I want to get some chrome rims but dont know whether to get 20s or 22s. My car is an 05 Midnight Blue CTS. Some people say 22s scrape when you turn. What is your opinion? Please untangle.

Re: 05 CTS: 20s or 22s???

Hello friend... Here is the problem.........................................

YES you can fit 22's on a 05 CTS, BUT you will have to get rubber band tiny tires. You must use a 255-30-22 tire. ANYTHING bigger will rub like hell. If you use a 255-30-22 tire, they WILL NOT RUB. The problem is that once you hit a pot hole, your rims will crack. These skinny tires are murderous on rims, especially cheap ebay 22 inch wheels. Dont get me wrong, you may be lucky and not crack them, but chances are that you will crack them if you are not careful because the tires have tiny small sidewalls...

If you get 20 inch wheels, you can use a 245-40-20 tire and you will have plenty of meat on the tires for pothole protection. Also, you can now ever get 245-40-20 inch vogue tires which look bad ass hell on Caddys! They cost about 900 bucks, but you can get some kuhmo or other regular tires for about 100 bucks a tire.

I just went through this whole ordeal. I have a newer Caddy STS and I wanted 22's. I live in Michigan and the potholes here are STUPID AND CRAZY ! ! After LONG debate, I finally decided to go with 20s so I could have a meatier tire. My 20s look great, and everytime I hit a pothole I dont worry as much. I have a sports car with 215-35-18 rubber band skinny tires and I cracked a rim a few months ago. I was pissed.

If pothole protection is not a concern, then get some 22's and get 255-30-22 tires with NO RUBBING...
If pothole are big in your area, then consider 20's with a 245-40-20 or 255-40-20 tire... NO RUBBING

Re: 05 CTS: 20s or 22s???

vogues will make your 20's look like 22's

id say go with 20's and vogues, unless you can afford to risk replacing wheels based on what DTS BOI said

Re: 05 CTS: 20s or 22s???

If its a daily driver I definately would go with 20s just for more rubber between the rim and the road. Riding every day on 22s with rubber bands is just asking for a dented or a cracked. If is just a weekend ride 22s are all good.

Re: 05 CTS: 20s or 22s???

DTS BOI pretty much hit the nail on the head. If want a harsher ride, go with the 22's but be aware of the risk of cracking or bending a rim. 20's will give you a nice look but offer more protection from potholes and the ride will be alot better. Plus you have a CTS which is a smaller car so 20's will look great on it. 22's are pushin it on a CTS.

Re: 05 CTS: 20s or 22s???

i ain't gots tha 05-09 series, 1998 on 20's is good... if you got air suspension in the back it will play a mean trick on the back suspension(shock not having enough travel). i have kumhos(don't get them) but up gradeing to bridgestones/goodyear and maybe continental...like homie said, you don't want rubber bands...ride quality is terrible. if you go 20 or 22... it's like getting some p#$$y, thicker the rubber, the more your protected
