Clear Bra

Remove this ad
I would like to get some feedback on the pros and cons of a clear bra installation. How does it affect the paint, ease of removal etc. And maybe the best place to buy one and have it installed.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Clear Bra

It is for an '05 STS. And after some further research I found a local tint shop that has certified techs to install the clear bra. I was quoted $495 for just bumper and mirrors, and $795 for the full package.

Re: Clear Bra

This automotive clear bra thing is way outta my field, but based on experience with shrink wrapping boats for the winter (.....yep, shrink wrap), the poly plastic, when in contact with 2-part polyurethane paints or gel coat, traps moisture and sometimes causes thousands of tiny "zits" in the finish. You have to be real careful with plastic over paint. Just my .02........I would think a black vinyl/flock unit for protection on trips and nothing in town.

Re: Clear Bra

Thanks SD. I tried one of those, but my wife says it doesn't look right without one for my beer belly.

This is a 3M product with a one time adhesive, guaranteed not to yellow, fade, peel, crack. It is computer cut to fit your vehicle and must be applied by certified techs. If I can find the link iI will post it. It is more of a skin and nothing can get underneath, and since it is applied with adhesive it can't rub or mar the surface. I had your same concerns until I found the scoop.

I think it is a little pricey, though compared to paint work..........

Re: Clear Bra

For the car that spends a lot of time on the highway that stuff looks like it's worth its weight in gold. BUT, fitting it properly to the bumper/grille area of an '02 STS looks practically impossible.

Re: Clear Bra

Like I said, it is laser/computer cut to your vehicle and tech. installed. But for me....I am struggling with the price and not the performance. I have done some research since my first post, and convinced of the worth. It will cost me close to a grand to do my whole car. My last '02 suffered horribly from road rash and was repainted only after a road boulder took out my center grill section.

I wouldn't worry so much with fit if price is not of concern. Check out the link I posted, and local trim and tint shops near you for prices. D&L is pretty popular and trustworthy in this part of MD north country.
