I heard from my detailer (when my car was struck by sap) that there are clear coat restoration or repair products out there. Does anyone know of one? I have a few little spots on my STS where the clear coat is peeled. It's not noticeable unless your waxing for the third time a month and see it. |

Amateur repairs of clear coat are going to lume up like a horse turd in a cream jar. Only the most talented of experienced painters can blend clear coat repairs enough to disgiuse them.

LOL horse turd? Turd blossoms...
I'll just have it done professionally when it's more noticeable. Thx. |

Hi,i recently used a DUPLI-COLOR CLEARCOAT TOUCH UP PAINT on 2 small areas where the clearcoat had peeled off when i replaced an emblem on my 1995 Deville. It is a bit noticeable when light shines at a certain angle--but more importantly, IT STOPS THE CLEARCOAT FROM PEELING OFF ANYMORE. |

I'm in Austin, but I had a very good experience with an outfit called "Colors on Parade." They fixed a number of hail marks on my hood and went over the entire car to do touch up work. In fact, they get paint work outsourced to them from the local Infiniti and Porsche dealerships. They actually airbrush matched paint colors which finishes off much better than touch-up paint brushes.
Check their web site - they are franchised across the country. |

I'll check them out and see where the nearest location is. Quote:

I dont think its a bad idea, sure it will most likely be noticeable, but so is peeling clear coat to begin with. I just want to slow the spreading down until the car needs a whole new paint job later.
If it were a show car or collectible and not a daily driver I would get it done professionally to begin with. |

I first wetsanded the are by hand very lightly and the lose clear flaked off easily, then I rinsed the area and buffed it with the polishing compound. Rinsed and did a bit more buffing by hand. I know have all the loose clear off and am working on cleaning up the edges. The problem I have now is what I suspected, the clearcoat is dingy after 14 years and I am now looking for a way to clean it up some.
I knew this would happen; A few years back I repainted my hood using the exact paint code for the car, after I painted/clearcoated it I could see it was more "blue" then the fenders, So now its off to find something to clean the clearcoat as safely as possible. |
