What to clean chrome wheels with?

Hello everyone.

I finally got the chrome seven spokes from the Sandman and I love them. Now I have my stock wheels which are the original arrowhead/bullet design wheels that were a $1200 option when the 1993 Allante was new stored in the garage. They need a good cleaning and brake dust removed from the back of the wheels.

Any suggestions on how to clean them up so they look like new?

I also want to keep the new to me seven spoke chrome wheels looking new so I'm open to suggestions there as well.

Thanks for any tips.

Don

If its mainly just dust, a little windex seems to work good for me, that is, if their not too bad.

Check out my old post about Cape Cod Cloths (Cape Cod Polishing Cloths). BTW, when Don says he finally got the wheels from me it doesn't mean I was slow to send them, it's just the way he chose to receive them . We want pictures!

I used Eagle 1 A2Z wheel cleanner on mine and they came out looking brand new. That stuff got brake dust off that was caked on from before i bought the car! I though the inside of the spokes were supposed to be brownish, then i took that stuff and a tooth brush to it and they look brand new!

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the brake cleaner on the back side of the rims, and it helped some. The brake crud is on thick and I think its going to take some more elbow grease to clean them right. My goal is to get the back as clean as the front. The wheels are aluminum, with crome on the front side.

Would SOS pads work better on the aluminum? Thought I ask before it start using them.

I did pick up some Eagle One A to Z for maintance for my wheels, but haven't tried it yet.

Would a pressure washer work for the back side? I do not have as much work to do on the front side. The Eagle One wight work well between the spokes/slots with a toothbrush as suggested.

Looks like I still have some work to do.

Thanks for any help.

Ive seen it at autozone.....

Don, we kind of abandoned you!!

A pressure washer is fine for any parts that you dont see, like the back of the wheel. I would put some simple green, full strength, let it sit a few minutes, and blast away! I think that pressure will do, and SOS pads most likely will not be needed....

I dont think you will get them as clean as the front, since a lot of the hot brake dust material actually "bonds" to the metal,; that is, unless you sand it.

Thanks Wes,

I used the AtoZ cleaner in combination with the brake cleaner on the back of the wheels. I got most of the dust off the backs. They look alot better, but as the buyer said " no one see the backs. The AtoZ works well on the fronts with a little effort one the non crome areas.

I got Eagle AtoZ at Autozone.

If you clean them good with car wash, or Simple Green if they are real dirty, and then clay them they should come out looking new, followed by your favorite polish/wax to protect them.
