Be careful, don't trust Cadillac Warranty - Norway

Dear all existing and new owners of Cadillac.

I am a very dissapointed owner of an 2004 XLR, livinng in Norway. I bought the car as second hand, 3 years ago, and experienced a big starting problem just after getting the car. After 3 months in the dealers garage to locate the problem, at a cost of close to 10 000 US , it was found that the wiring to the "Look Steering Colum" was broken, later confirmed by an extarnal spscialist that the reason was due to twisting the wiring during assembly of the car. This caused no electric signal from the starting device.
With reference to the enclosed documentation from Cadilllac, delivered togehter with the car, an extended warranty shi\old be put in force in cases where the problem was created by the car producer.

I contated the Scandinavian representative and the Eurpoean representaive, without having any sucess, then I contacted Cadillac direct through the gmexpert.com , and Miss Katie Lucille, trying to get and answere from GM, after now nearly two years no answere has been given, not even a small returnmail.

So, my fellows Cadillack -owners DONT TRUST Cadillac, think once more before you by such a car.

    Bestr regards

    Mr. Tom Mathisen

Umm, the car is 10 years old, it hasn't been under warranty in a long time.

Let's move this to Cadillac Customer Care and see if they can explain how warranties, time, and mileage work. I have no idea of the differences between U.S. and European warranties for U.S. branded cars.

Re: Be crefull, don`t trust Cadillac Warranty

I agree that warranty is long past. If there was truely a defect when the car was manufacured (twisted wire harness during manufacture) I would like to see if Cadillac will offer some assistance. The problem I see here is that may be difficult to prove.

Even an XLR becomes a hoopty at some point. Don't buy a ten year old car unless you are in a position to just walk away from it when the troubles start.

Ummm can we say a hack job for a remote starter. Either installed or removed. Therefore it's not Cadillac's problem. Or any manufactures problem for that matter.

10 year old cars are going to have problems. However, if it was a manufacturer's defect, I'm surprised it took 8-10 years to present itself! I on the other hand have had excellent service on all my Cadillacs. Of course they were under warranty. It is because of the customer service that I keep buying and recommending them even though I have had major issues with two of them, which Cadillac exceeded my expectations in resolving in both cases.

I've installed remote starters many years ago. I even repaired the ones that were done at other business. As a matter of fact, the place where I worked is still open. Half of the employees are still there. In my 9 months there, I couldn't count on two hands how many hack jobs I repaired.

Re: Be crefull, don`t trust Cadillac Warranty

The roundabout question was: "How come a remote starter uses wiring twisted inside the steering column ?" because the OP never said a word concerning a remote anything.

My guess is that something was lost in the translation engine between Norwegian and English.
