Need IPOD Help!
First off, I love this car! I have so much respect for what GM did when putting together this machine. But here is a gripe....
It has to do with the IPOD integration in this vehicle....
Before people ask, I am using the supplied GM Ipod cable. I have an IPOD Nano.
Here is the weird part that I can't figure out nor can my dealer, Rorick Buick in Carlsbad, CA.
About 50% of the time it works as designed. The other 50% it doesn't. I always leave my nano plugged in the center console and each time I start the car it begins to play where it left off. But other times I turn on the car and I hear nothing through my speakers and I do hear a faint noise coming from my IPOD Nano. The Nano is emmitting sound from the device as if there were a very small speaker on it.
My dealer tried it and noticed this too. I went to Itunes and made sure my Nano included the latest firmware and it in deed had the latest firmware.
The first few times I checked the connections but all look very good. Even if I wiggled it, nothing changed. And when I disconnect it from the cable and reconnect it again then it works as it should.
Its when the car is turned off something happens, and its not all the time.
I used another Nano and it experienced the same issues. I even tried turning off the vehicle sound system by pushing the power button before turning off the car but that didn't work either.
I am down to this being either a bad gm Ipod cable or just an inherent technical glitch with this system.
Am I alone? Any thoughts?

Happens about 5% of the time with my Touch. Not often enough for me to worry about it.

Re: Need IPOD Help!
It seems to be an inherent technical glitch with the cable and connection port. This is a problem with any of the iPod models. I've experienced this with my iTouch, iPhone and also 3G iPod. I have also seen this problem on the standard CTS models as well. Fortunately, this problem does not occur often but when it does I just disconnect and reconnect the cable. This restores the sound. Maybe if enough of us complained about this to the dealer it might receive some attention from GM.... Yea right!

Bummer. Did they change anything for 2010 to fix the issue? New cables, etc? Mine seems to happen more often than what you said above.

Re: Need IPOD Help!
I experienced the problem on one occasion with my Nano and on another occasion, the car system would move from song to song on the Nano without stopping to play any of them. I reset my Nano per instructions from the Apple web site, and the problem went away. I don 't know whether it's an Apple or a GM problem.

Re: Need IPOD Help!
My 2010 does the same thing with my Touch about 5% of the time. I have to disconnect the cable at the iPod to get things working again. On one occassion, the car refused to recognize the iPod at all. Again, disconnecting the cable at the iPod fixed the problem. I may try resetting my iPod to see if that helps.

Re: Need IPOD Help!
I haven't tried it with the NANO yet. I can say that I only had one initial problem with the classic. After I resolved that, the classic will play consistantly without problems. I do know that if the connector is not seated correctly on the iTouch or iPhone, you will experience the problem of not hearing music output from the stereo and only hearing the faint music coming from your unit. Since I do not experience this type of problem on any other connector, .i.e. Alpine, Denon, Onkyo, I am assumming that the problem is in the cable connector.

Re: Need IPOD Help!
For me its just about every other attempt. I bought a nano to put it in the center console and leave it there. By me having to go in and disconnect it and reconnect it 50% of the time, this can't be as they anticipated it to be. What a pain in the ass? Resetting the IPOD I don't know what that would do for this problem but I can try it.

Re: Need IPOD Help!
The lack of sound problem that I experienced happened long before the runaway scrolling through songs every 1-2 seconds, without playing them, problem. The sound problem magically went away by itself after 30-40 minutes of driving time and hasn't returned. The 2nd problem was cured by the reset. I don't know if the reset also helped prevent the recurrence of the 1st problem, but I wouldn't rule out Apple's device/software as a contributor.

Re: Need IPOD Help!
For what it's worth, I have a iPod Classic (80GB), about 1.5 years old and have not had any of the symtoms you guys describe. I use the "too short" GM cable that was supplied with my '09. Perhaps it's the model? Perhaps the latest firmware is what you DON'T want?

Re: Need IPOD Help!
I have the 120GB iPod classic and use it in my '09 all the time. I've never had any of the problems you guys seem to be experiencing. I am also using the short GM adapter.

Re: Need IPOD Help!
It has to be the associated firmware for the Nano. It is reassuring that the classic has been without problems. I have one of those too but its broken and hence the reason I bought the Nano. I guess I will get it repaired.

Re: Need IPOD Help!
I have the same no sound issue with my 2010 and 2nd gen Nano. I was going to try to update the software on the Nano to see if it helps, but haven't gotten around to it.
