I believe it was brought up previous not to use the K & N air filter. The oil in the filter gets on the mass air meter and messes up the readings. Stick with the stock filter. Cecil..........

The CTS-V uses the same K&N filter as the regular CTS.

    Re: K&N filter part number?

I think that the problem was not the K & N filter with the K & N factory oil application coming out of the K & N factory as shipped but was a problem when the filter was washed and re-oiled by the owner. I have used K & N filters on many vehicles that I have owned and it is very difficult to not flood them with too much oil when cleaning and re-oiling.
However, not using a K & N filter would resolve a possible issue before it got started. I personally would use just the stock filter to avoid any such possible issues.

I agree 100% on this. The K&N oil is only a problem after the filter has been washed and re-oiled. My dealer told me that they have been having problems with the MAFs when customers go to K&N filters and they will not replace the MAF under warranty when there is any K&N oil present on the filter. They said to stick with the factory paper filter and just replace it often.

Likely that is complete bunk. I've been using oiled K&N and S&B Filters on my MAF equipped vehicles for decades. The current MAF on my Cobra has been living happily behind oiled filters for 100k+ miles.

Sounds like a dealer trying to weasel out of a warranty repair to me.

    My $0.02.

    Re: K&N filter part number?

I installed the K&N filter part 33-2411 and it fits like a glove. I have had no issues or problems. I plan replace with new one when the time comes.

I am comfortable recommending it to anyone. Much thinner than the stockone.

    How much was it?
I think that might be a good decision to replace when new, but I still think that it is possible to take it to the dealer for a possible MAF related problem / issue and catch the dealer / tech / tech writer on a bad day. Time will tell about that.

It was $52 bucks. I will certainly let you know if it creates a problem with MAF.

As long as you replace the filter rather than clean and re-oil it I don't think that it will cause a problem, I just think that the dealer if 1 is involved in a warranty claim for a MAF will report it as a possible cause of the problem, and GM might accept it that way. When visiting the dealer for any reason I would probably replace the K&N with the old factory filter and clean the inside of the filter box removing any oil residue. Just a precaution.

I agree and planned on doing that. I noticed that the first oil change suggested a change of the air filter as well. I will do the cleaning and swap the OEM back in when i take it in for an oil change just in case.

    Re: K&N filter part number?

FWIW, I learned my lesson early with over-oiling the K&N on my '98 Camaro SS. The 1st time I cleaned it, I over-oiled it and the MAF wires became fouled with oil deposits. No driveability problems, but the car lost some of its "oomph" Luckily, the MAF on that car is easily taken out and I (very carefully and with a steady hand) took a Q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol and removed the oil from the wires. It came off very easily. Definitely an improvement in SOTP feel and the next week I lopped 2/10s off my best 1/4 mi. time.
If I ever had to clean the wires again, I would use a spray cleaner (contact spray) rather than risk breaking those very thin and delicate wires on the MAF.
BTW, no further problems with the MAF after that in 8 yrs. with the K&N.

    Best regardSS,

    Elie
