Need advice on drag radials

Remove this ad
Thanks to those on the forum who gave me advice on finding drag radials and rims. I have a set of Mickey Thompson 305/35/18's on 18x10.5 Rims that I am putting on Saturday. I'm going to take the V to the track on Sunday to see how much improvement over stock tires I pick up. I did a 12.2 with a 1.93 60 ft with the stock tires at 36 psi. My question to those with this set up is what tire pressure should I use at the track with these drag radials?

Re: Need advice on drag radials

I usually run abut 18-19 PSI in mine. I would start at 22 and work your way down.

Why?
the lower your air pressure, the more rolling resisitance you create. more resistance more drag, slower elapsed times.

Re: Need advice on drag radials

I run the ones on my 89 Turbo Trans Am at about 20 psi and try to run them with as much air as possible to minimize the rolling resistance as was mentioned above. If you run them too low, 15 psi or so, they get a little loose feeling at the top end.

Like I said...start at 22 and work your way down to see what works best for each car.

My car would 60 in the 1.48-1.52 zone at 18-19 psi cold and my trap was faster and mph the same as when I was running 22 psi.

My car however is not as heavy as the V's so a lower pressure works for me.
