When your machine is choking and wheezing its slow death, look at the the bottom left corner of your window and see how many times you see the word "double click" (probably around 1,000 times). Double click handles the advertisements for most all pop up and spam marketing you see on the web (I used to work in the same building as double click).

Honestly, I have never had to pay (subscribe to) for a site or change my browser just so it could run on my machine(s) at a reasonable speed before this one. If it were not for the quality of the information that I can only seem to find here on my vehicle, I would probably spend a lot more time at a place that did not place such a high priority on its advertisers.

Just my .02 and no offense intended. This is the slowest site on earth.

The conclusion is that the guys that are too cheap to be supporting members are also too cheap to buy a decent computer with a good broadband connection.

No offense taken. The problem lies where there are very few automotive forums as busy as this one with the lack of regular advertisers that we have. For example, corvetteforum.com or ls1tech.com - scroll down the page and see the endless list of advertisers along the entire side - to nearly the bottom. If we had that type of advertiser participation - we could get rid of ALL the "network" type ads (doubleclick, for example) that slow the site down.

It's the network ads that slow-down page loading but they're desperately needed. Those of you who turn them off with browser plugins are hurting the community - but that's your prerogative. Supporting members don't see the "network" ads and have a much faster browsing experience. Supporting the community only costs a few dollars and helps keep us running and moving forward...

Re: Does this site run REALLY slow for anyone else?

Indeed. I currently pay on this and another car forum (S2KI) as both of those forums have saved me FAR more than the cost of membership when purchasing a car, or parts.

If it weren't for this forum, I would have ended up paying more than MSRP for my V, or waiting for a used V. I saved a LOT more than the $50 the forum costs per year.

The site screams on Safari 4 for Mac.

I also just tried using the site without signing in (e.g. with all the ads enabled) on both Safari 4 for Mac AND Camino 1.6.8 for Mac (uses Firefox 3.0 engine) and the site also is pretty fast. Sounds like a combo of IE for Windows and all the ads could be a problem.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. What you're saying makes sense and does explain a lot. I will continue to support the site because I'd like to help this community and I get a lot of good information here. I may also continue to use plug-ins because they help my machine a lot too.
