WAIT4ME Tune Installation

Jess has been doing this stuff a long time and he uses EFILive(My favorite). He is well known in the EFILive community and comes highly recommended. He is great to deal with and very responsive. He has the best deal going in my opinion. He charges 160 plus shipping if you already have a spare E67 ECM or 320 shipped with a new ECM. He offers free upgrades (you have to ship the ECM to him) if you ever add any mods (headers, CAI, Pulley etc).

1) Disconnect the battery.

2) Remove the left bay cover:

3) The ECM is located in the top left corner of the engine bay:

4) The ECM has three plugs that look like this:

Below is a picture of how the unlock and locking lever works:

5) Take the red clasps and move it up towards you. Right above the red clasp is a black button. Push in and then you can lift the lever up as shown in the above picture. Do this to all three and then pull the plugs out and move them to the side so you can take the ECM out.

6) The ECM is held by a couple plastic clips at the top of the bracket (Closest to you). Here are a couple pictures of each of the clips:

Left Clip:

Right Clip:

Push out on the clip and pop the top part of the ECM out. The bottom part of the ECM rests in a plastic lip so once the top is out pull towards you a little and then you can twist the bottom corners out. Be careful some of the wiring harness are close by and in the way.

7) Here is a picture of the E67 ECM:

The ECM and plugs are color coded so be sure to match them up:

8) Next install the tuned ECM and remember to rest the bottom of the ECM in the plastic lip. The wiring harnesses get in the way so be careful.

9) Before you put the plugs back on make sure the red clips are all the way up or you will break them. Install all three plugs using the lever to seat them all the way. Once that is done push down on the red clips to lock them in place.

10) Get in the car and turn the key to accessory and let it sit for 5 minutes. If you try to start the car it won't because the alarm has to relearn. Now turn the key off then try and start the car. If it doesn't work repeat turning the key on then off.

11) Once the car is started you will get a check engine light. This is because the crank is out of alignment but it will not hurt anything if you ignore it. You can either take your car to the dealership or get someone with EFILive to help you out. If you live in the DFW area I can do it for you. I charge beer . PM me to set something up on the weekend.

Conclusion:

The install is very easy and took 15 minutes to perform. Jess was great to deal with and his return shipping was fast. My butt-o-meter feels a definite improvement. MPG I can already tell is dramatically improved. Cruising at 60-70 mph on the freeway I was getting between 23-30mpg on the instant gauge. Highest I saw before was 25mpg on a 300 mile round trip.

Re: WAIT4ME Tune Installation

That's a nice little write up with pics CadV.

Might I suggest you throw it into a Word document and send it to Reed at the CadillacFAQ for inclusion in the 09V section ?

Very nice! So, what are the chances of a quick ride in your V if I buy you a few beers at Bone Daddy's?

Re: WAIT4ME Tune Installation

crank relearn is easy on the programs though!

Re: WAIT4ME Tune Installation

The actual crank alignment doesnt change. But anytime you install a new or different PCM, a CASE relearn usually has to be done. (Crankshaft Angle Sensor Error). the CASE relearn tells the PCM the exact relationship between its cam and crank sensors. The ECM?PCM needs this info in order to detect missfires. Every vehicle since 1996(when OBD2 cam about) has needed this input. Sometimes you get lucky and you dont need a CASE relearn.
EVERY single vehicle gets a CASE relearn done on the assembly line, at least after 1996.
the CASE info is saved in the PCM/ECM. If you use the original ECM/PCM and install a new tune on it, the CASE relearn isnt needed, if you use a different PCM, you might need a CASE relearn done.

Any time you install a new:
engine
ECM/PCM
Crank sensor
crankshaft
crank reluctor wheel
A CASE relearn should be done.

This isnt specific to the CTSV, all cars/trucks after 1996 are affected.
Any GM dealership can do a CASE reelarn, they usually cahrge anwheres from 1/2-1 hr labour, even though it takes less that 5 minutes to do the reelarn. EFILIve can do this, not sure if HPTuners can or not.

peace
Hog

Re: WAIT4ME Tune Installation

The CASE relearn is picky with the 09 CTS-V.

You have to let the car warm up to 170, set the parking brake, apply the brake, and then use whatever tool (Tech or EFILive). Once you hit the relearn you have 1 second to hit 4500rpm.

Been running great. I went to see my dad over the weekend (300 mile round trip) and I got 24mpg driving between 60-70. During a normal work week I have a 50 mile round trip and I can go 5 days on a tank. Before I could only go 4 but I drive pretty fast (80mph).

Re: WAIT4ME Tune Installation

Great news, thanks for the update! Is there any way to tell how hot the cats are running? Will it throw a code if they run too hot?

Re: WAIT4ME Tune Installation

So I take it there is no way to determine how hot the cats are running?
