Oooh....is that one of the $90,000 dollar M5s that's slower than a 2009 CTS-V and has no satellite radio and lumbar, or is that the $95,000 one that has the standard Cadillac features and is still slower than a CTS-V? It's hard to tell from the pictures.

Well, in the BMW's defense, I can't believe I am typing this, after 3 years of use which will have depriciated less?
I bring this up because it is just about my number 1 concern when it comes to purchasing a 70k cadillac new. I have watched the V1 CTS-V, STS-V, and XLR-V take some pretty big tumbles.. Hell my almost 60k 02 completley loaded DTS is worth about 15k now.
I am completley confident that dollar for dollar you will get helluva more car in the 09 V than in the M5.. no question, no doubt. And as you obviously know I am planning on a purchase of one. Yet the history of Cadillacs depriciation cannot be ignored.

Then the idea would be to get one that's 1-2 years old with relatively low miles on it that's already taken the hit and get it Certified.
The BMUU's do overall hold their value well, but Cadillac certainly isn't the only high dollar car that loses value over time.

I agree, I don't think anything has worse depriciation than an Audi from what I have researched so far. Although, Audi's here in Miami hold their value pretty good because they are held in higher regards with the pseudo Europeans here. They love them.
If you're worried about resale (which has not been great on American cars in the last 20 years), then leasing it might be a good way to go. I bought my CTS-V because I knew I was going to mod it and keep it a long time, but we lease my Wife's vehicles. Our 2005 STS only cost us $12,000 to drive for 2 years, versus $20k or more had we bought it.
The first step in improving resale values is improving the cars themselves- this eliminates the need for incentives, which builds percieved quality and improves resale. The CTS (generation 1) was the first Cadillac in a long time not to drop like a stone after a year (a 3 year old CTS is worth more than a 3 year old Deville that cost $20k more new), so we'll see how resale plays out on this one. It all comes down to how well it sells, and I think it'll be hard to find a year or two old Gen. 2 CTS-V as cheap as you do the Gen. 1 CTS-Vs.

On the resale issue. A friend of mine just traded his 04 911 turbo cab for a 430 spider. Porsche only offered him 82k for it and Ferrari gave him 86k woopee... He paid nearly 160k new So lets see 80k loss in less than 4 years that makes me feel just fine thank you with our resale
Still haven't heard an exact price on them, but was just watching and IDL and the Cadillac CEO officially said the car will be 550hp, 550ftlb/tq, 0-60 in 4.0 seconds(did not clarify whether that is AT or MT), the AT will be 6-speed with paddle shift, 6 piston Brembo Calipers and rotors on the front, 4 piston Bembo's in the rear, its going to have Magnetic Ride Control, and Performance Torque Management, taken from the Cadillac Racing guys.
This car is going to be ridiculously fun to drive. Black leather/suede interior with 14 way power adjustable seats with pneumatic bolsters, even had the upper leg/knee bolster like the Fox Body Mustang GT's had. I'm so ready for us to unload one, but will be September at the earliest. I'm not sure if all of this is common knowledge but I just heard it and it is official of what will be on it.
