Wait for a chescrown '09 V. But I can't do that without selling my '04 and lately I've kinda decided I'd rather slowly build my '04 up. Plus my dad's going to get a C6 for a summer car so it'd be fun to go C6 vs '04 V at the track

At least the base model '08 doesn't have = or better performance to our old V's, that'd be the kiss 'o death for value.
BMW does that, put up a new car that isn't an M with similar performance to the old M, just CRUSHING the value of the old model. The recovery from BMW ownership is long and hard (read what you want into that, my ass still hurts, I still need to vent).
My current V + 35 large will set me up just fine . To bad I'm in Real Estate and the extra $35 Large won't be forthcoming
Good thing I like my car.

09 V's will be very rare, due to their high cost.
Therefore, I see them more as pulling our values back up.
Our V's offer the better performance value and and will be harder to come by, once the big run of early-V lease returns ends.
I think we are doing better on depreciation than 09 V owners will.

I'm thinking Z06 sedan. Current Z06 that is. WOW Then I remeber my run in with a M6 a day ago. NO I didn't kill him but fun none the less. What I'm getting at is this current car is killer. Still in love. Longest I've owned a car. So if the bank account isn't ready by 09 then I will happily wait another year in my current V.NO problem
PS. Lets see 08cts loaded 49k + 15k in performance upgrades. My vote on price under 65k. Fingers crossed |

Soon after I bought my '05 V (in summer '04), I saw brand new ones being sold off dealer lots for 5-8k less than I paid. And, used ones, barely a year old with low miles, were selling for something like 30k.
I don't know who has done well on resale with this car. By next summer, I'll have had it for 4 years, and will own it outright. At that time, I view it as a downpayment on the '09, however much that may be. I don't expect it to be much, since '05's sell in the 20's now.
The only people who have done well on resale are people who bought used, at a ridiculous resale value.
On the other hand, I bought it to drive it, not as an investment. So, I drive it alot. |

It's happened before with Z06s, RX-7s and several other performance cars. I suppose the logic goes "People see rave review and can't afford new one, but will pay well for a used one from the previous generation."
Keep in mind that I said "Possible", not "Probable." |

While they skipped a model year, waiting for the new one to come out, the resale was strong on used ones in the hiatus year. Once the new one came out, the resale market went back to what it was.
I guess it's better to expect nothing and get something, which is what I am trying to do.
And, I'll be sure to remind my dealer that resale values are trending upwards as he's evaluating my trade on the '09. |

Good thing I like my car. | What is all this trading in and getting rid of the old V? I couldn't care less about that. I don't care what it's worth since I'm keeping my '04 forever.
As for new cars crushing the old models' resale, that's short term. Have you priced out a first gen M3 or M5 in good shape? Egads expensive! Same for every model M3 and M5 since then. Sure, as you move from one gen to the next, the resale may go down. But the cars are good enough to always be in demand. Hopefully, Cadillac will have the same results... |
