Will have options this time to load up the price | Under $60k is a 100% pipe dream. How do you think it will cost less than a Z06 with a more powerful engine which will also mean a much stronger transmission, DS, and rear end. They will keep it under the price of an M5. I am guessing $85k but there is no way it will cost less than $70k. It will be around 600hp and Lutz did say that if BMW does not do something to the M5 that the V will suck the doors off of it.
It will be priced between the M3 and M5 and going after the M5 and being a better performer, it will be cloer in price to the M5 than the M3. I am saving my pennies now. |

But how far up the food chain can the CTS really go.
If a base CTS is 35K, then the V can't be double that.
It's already hard enogh on us seeing all the CTS on the road making us feel like one of the AARP crowd.
Without extensive lightening (like Z06) GM can't demand that much of a price jump.
We are really only talking about using off the shelf drivetrain parts and retrofitting to the V.
GM can do that for dirt cheap and should keep the cost resonable to us.
I would be more worried about greedy dealers trying to Market Adjust the car when it is first released. |

If a base CTS is 35K, then the V can't be double that. | Well, the MSRP on a 528i is $44,300.00 and the MSRP on an M5 is $82,500.00. I didn't add options to either, just left them plain, and I understand the 528i is the bottom of the barrel, but if BMW can nearly double the price between the base 5-series and the M5, why can't the difference between a base CTS and a V be nearly double?

Brian | The M5 is not parts bin engineering like the V.
Have you seen the Brake Rotors on an M5?
I forget what that technology is called but the disk is floating on pins.
The M5 engine is a V10 with formula-1 trickle down engineering behind it.
I'm just saying GM should not double the price, just because BMW does.
That would be insulting to our intellegence.
The next V will be very economical for GM to build (with a parts bin drivetrain) and GM should price it to us accordingly.
GM may need to cover their warranty costs though, so on that point, I could see a big price bump. |

Brian | The BMW example you quoted is a 79% price increase from the base to the M. If you compare base to base on the current-gen CTS, it's a similar ratio.
Base CTS (2.8L) - $30,670
Base CTS-V - $53,470
That's a 74% price increase from a base CTS to a base V.
The '09 CTS is expected to base out around $32,500, so if the bump for the V model stays the same, you're looking at $56,500. Quote:

If we follow this "parts bin" strategy which America manufactures are tied to (due to economies of scale) - expect MSRP between 60-65 thousand. |

As much as it pains me to admit it, I'm taking a seat on the sidelines and observing what happens with reliability before jumping in. Considering the beating the resale value of my current V has taken, I'll be in it for at least another 2 years before I feel I've gotten my money's worth. |

You have to look model year to model year. Caddy won't jump from 53 to 59. |
