They told me that they had to replace a bolt. Okay for a few days and then I developed a LOUD rubbing/grinding noise whenever I apply my breaks. Took it back in and they've had it for two days now and don't know what the problem is.
I'm concerned because I'm getting little input from my rep. He says it is a lubrication issue and that no damage is being done to the pads or rotors. Supposedly they are working with GM to try and resolve as the lubricants they've tried so far have not resolved the issue.
Any thoughts as to what the problem could be? I'm quite concerned as I'm leaving on a one month road trip the day after Thanksgiving. |

Either you mis-understood or you were given BS. Is there another dealer in your area? You may want to pull your car out of there and take it somewhere else. |

There is a bolt that allows the pistons (pads) to retrack after the brake pedal is released. If the bolt is not straight, lubricated correctly or aligned, the pads may be hampered from retreating off the rotor (thus causing the scraping you describe). It could also be a bad caliper (to begin with); it sounds as they tried the least costly corrective measure to alleviate the problem. I wouldn't be surprise if they ultimately need to change the caliper proper before it's done. Good luck with the repair, and not to be a preacher about grammer/spelling but you should use the correct 'brake/braking', not break/breaking (as in broken). |

Please show some pictures and let us know what you think about the CTS and give us some particulars about your car. Thanks Lewis |

They had a rep in this morning to look at my car. He determined it was a rotor problem that could not be repaired with a shim. They ordered a replacement and I'll be back on the road on Friday! Thanks for your suggestions.
Gee...ya'll are a tough audience. My spelling error was purely Freudian! I was overly concerned that my brake issue was breaking my car to the point that I wouldn't have enough confidence to take my 82 year old parents on a long planned road trip. Who ever heard of having your new car in the shop for six days due to a rotor?!
C&C - when correcting someone’s grammAr, be sure to check your spelling! (Couldn't resist.) |

Ask the dealer about it and he said that GM is aware of it and they are in the midst of designing new brake pads that is supposed to solve the problem. |

| | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | | Re: Noise When Breaking I had the squeal.. took it in.. dealer claimed he replaced the pads, which he may well have done. But I still have the squeal. Do these dealers not test drive once they are done to verify that what they are working on is fixed.. I'm beginning to see that despite a wonderful car, people are looking elsewhere for their vehicle needs. You buy an upscale car but get the same service as the guy with a cavalier. Doesn't make sense to me. |
