Took the dive

Well after some time lurking on this forum trying and learn as much as I can about the CTS I finally made the decision and drove one home last night. I've always been a Chevy performance kind of guy but now little older and wiser, I decided to mix a little comfort as well.

The CTS I bought is Gold Mist with the cashmere interior. I got the Premium Luxury package with the F3 sport package. As of now I only have 28 miles on the odometer. I originally went for the White Diamond but for some reason the Gold Mist won me over. I spent most of the afternoon playing around with the Nav/Audio system which is very trick.

My only complaint was the poor job of detailing done by the dealership. I picked it up at night with low light so I wasn't aware of the lousy job until this morning. This is my first Cad and I was expecting more from them. The fleet sales mgr. was easy to deal with and I got it at invoice but I'm not sure if their service dept. will see me again after the crap job on detailing. I sent them an e-mail with this complaint.

All and all I'm thrilled to own such a beautiful car. My first road trip will be to Las Vegas this weekend. 1100 miles round trip so it will be broken in no time.

Frank

Re: Took the dive

Congrats! You'll love it, I'm sure.

Sorry to hear about the lousy service. Given the crappy sales lately, you'd think they would go out of their way to make it perfect. My car was not only detailed to the nines, it was delivered to my home, 17 miles from the dealership, so they're not all bad.

1100 miles RT to Vegas -- you in the Bay Area?

Re: Took the dive

My guys did a great job of make ready.
Like any other brand, dealerships vary and all use yard monkees to do the make ready.
Try to hold it down for the first 500 miles, but you can let 'er rip by the end of the trip.

The Gold Mist is a cool color. And fairly rare.
Put up a pix on the New car Pix thread!

Re: Took the dive

I thought I had posted a reply but somehow it didn't take. I just wanted to update after my trip to Vegas. When I left at 0300 hrs. I had less then 150 miles on the new ride. I had 550 miles to go and was alone since my wife had flown earlier and was expecting me to do the same. It was one of the most enjoyable roadtrips I've taken in recent memory. The car was pleasure to drive and at that time in the morning I was pretty much alone. I was able to see just how nice she handles as well just how quite it was. The ambient light was just the right intensity and the navigation system and audio was awsome. After I had 500 miles on her I started to open it up a little. The faster I went the more responsive it became. I even had to use my wipers in the desert when I had to drive to through a strong thunderstorm. Fortunately there was no hail but it rained in buckets for about 4 miles. The system was so sudden and severe the navigator gave a severe weather warning just as I was driving out of it. I was most concerned on how it would handle with the summer tires. It was better then I expected but it was still far from safe. I had to deal with hydroplaning even at 40 mph. I will be giving serious thought to changing these out to all weather. That was my choice when I spected the car out but I couldn't find one with the options I wanted so I went with summer but at least I got the F3 with it. I was really concerned about the vibration at 65-70 many have complained about but did not experiance any. As far as fuel ecconomy I wasn't disappointed. I averaged 26 mpg both on the DIC and the old way with an average speed of 75.
I have just over 700 miles on her and will be leaving for my return trip in 3 days. I'm looking forward to it.

Re: Took the dive

Sounds like a great trip! But that's strange you had issues with the Summer tires in rain. Normally those type of tires do very well in dry/wet conditions. It's just very cold/snow areas where you definately want snow or all-season tires. What brand tires do you have on your car? Maybe want to see how the do on tirerack.com.
